Opportunities to accelerate immunization progress in middle-income countries
Vaccine. 2023 Jul 15:S0264-410X(23)00782-X. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.06.079. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThere has been increasing recognition of vaccine access challenges in middle-income countries and the need for increased action, particularly in countries that are not eligible for or have transitioned out of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance support. These countries' immunization systems are more vulnerable than ever as the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbates existing programme challenges, increasing the risk of delayed vaccine introductions, backsliding immunization coverage rates, and increased coverage inequity. The potenti...

Communication strategies to improve human papillomavirus (HPV) immunisation uptake among adolescents in sub-Saharan Africa: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion HPV vaccine communication is critical in ensuring that the community understands the importance of vaccination. The most effective communication strategies included those which educate the population about the HPV vaccine, facilitate decision-making on vaccine uptake and community ownership of the vaccination process immunisation. PROSPERO registration number CRD42021243683.

"If People Were Told About the Cancer, They'd Want to Get Vaccinated": Knowledge, Attitudes, and Beliefs About HPV Vaccination Among Mid-Adult Men
This study aimed to identify knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs (KABs) about HPV and HPV vaccination among newly eligible mid-adult men, for whom uptake in adolescence and younger adulthood remains suboptimal. We conducted six virtual focus groups (N = 34 participants) with unvaccinated men aged 27 to 45 living in Southern California's Inland Empire. Data were systematically analyzed to identify emergent themes using the rigorous and accelerated data reduction technique. The sample of men was diverse (79% Hispanic, non-Hispanic Black, Asian, or mixed race/ethnicity; 26% gay or bisexual) and captured participants from across...

Computational approaches in discovery and development of therapeutic and prophylactic agents for viral diseases
Curr Top Med Chem. 2022 Oct 19. doi: 10.2174/1568026623666221019110334. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOver the last two decades computational technologies have always played a crucial role in anti-viral drug development. Whenever a virus spreads and becomes a threat to global health it brings along the challenge to develop new therapeutics and prophylactics. Computational drug and vaccine discovery have evolved at a breakneck pace over the years. Some interesting examples of computational drug discovery are anti-AIDS drugs, where HIV protease and reverse transcriptase have been targeted by agents developed using computatio...

Assessing knowledge of human papillomavirus among men who have sex with men (MSM) using targeted dating applications
CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this study identify demographic groups and geographical areas where preventive campaigns for HPV would be most needed. The findings highlight dental providers as an underutilized source of HPV education and vaccine recommendation. The study reveals opportunities to close gaps in care and knowledge, and points to future directions for research and development of effective interventions.PMID:35945045 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2022.07.048

Disparities in Human Papillomavirus vaccination coverage among adolescents in Australia: A geospatial analysis
CONCLUSION: Socioeconomic and education factors were important predictors for HPV vaccination rates among Australian boys and girls aged 15 years, although no variable presented a uniform effect on HPV vaccination across SA4 regions. Important spatial heterogeneity in the effect of predictors was identified across the study area.PMID:35750540 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2022.06.030

Covax, the Developing World ’ s Hope against COVID, Has Made It Only Halfway
Delivery of syringes for the vaccination campaign in El Salvador. Latin American countries have made steady progress in immunizing their populations, partly through direct negotiations between their governments and suppliers and partly through international cooperation. CREDIT: PAHO By Humberto MárquezCARACAS, Jan 20 2022 (IPS) The Covax initiative, the hope of the countries of the developing South to immunize their populations against COVID-19, only met half of its goals in 2021. And as 2022 begins, and the omicron variant of the virus is spreading fast, the scheme still depends on the decisions of pharmaceutical compani...
