In vitro oxygen imaging of acellular and cell-loaded beta cell replacement devices
This article aims to establish the protocols and demonstrate a few examples of in vitro oxygen imaging of BAP devices using EPROI. All pO2 measurements were performed using a recently introduced 720 MHz/25 mT preclinical oxygen imager instrument, JIVA-25™. We began by performing pO2 calibration of the biomaterials used in BAPs at 25 mT magnetic field since no such data exist. We compared the EPROI pO2 measurement with a single-point probe for a few selected materials. We also performed trityl OX071 toxicity studies with fibroblasts, as well as insulin-producing cells (beta TC6, MIN6, and human islet cells). Finally, we p...

Efficacy of Massage Techniques for Hypertrophic Burn Scars - A Systematic Review of Literature
J Burn Care Res. 2023 Sep 12:irad140. doi: 10.1093/jbcr/irad140. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDespite advancements in burn care, evidence estimates that pathological scarring occurs in 32% to 75% of cutaneous burns. Scar massage therapy is an under researched method of management for hypertrophic burn scars which has scope to be a low-cost treatment alternative. The aim of this systematic review was to determine the efficacy of scar massage techniques for common hypertrophic burn scar symptoms such as contraction, pruritus, pain and visibility. The keywords and corresponding MeSH terms were inputed into PubMed, EMBASE, Co...

Improving mycetoma case detection through the training of community health workers in Northern Uganda: protocol for a stepped-wedge cluster-randomized trial
Ther Adv Infect Dis. 2023 Sep 8;10:20499361231198332. doi: 10.1177/20499361231198332. eCollection 2023 Jan-Dec.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: The World Health Organization acknowledges the need for countries to incorporate neglected tropical disease care into their routine health care system. However, low detection rates and late presentation of mycetoma to health facilities have been observed in endemic countries, including Uganda.OBJECTIVE: To empower community health workers (CHWs) in Northern Uganda to recognize and refer suspects of mycetoma to health facilities.DESIGN: This will be a stepped-wedge cluster-randomized trial bas...
