Introduction Patients with kidney failure receiving chronic haemodialysis have elevated risk of arrhythmias potentially increasing the likelihood of sudden cardiac death, stroke and hospitalisation. The DIALIZE study (NCT03303521) demonstrated that sodium zirconium cyclosilicate (SZC) was an efficacious and well-tolerated treatment for predialysis hyperkalaemia in patients undergoing haemodialysis. Predictors of 30-Day Outcomes Following Mitral Valve Repair
ConclusionsOutcomes are good following mitral valve repair. Although a substantial number of risk factors were found to be associated with adverse outcomes, only a small subset remained statistically significant following multivariate analysis. Identification of these risk factors may help guide clinical decision making with respect to which patients are the best candidates to undergo mitral valve repair.

Potassium binders for chronic hyperkalaemia in people with chronic kidney disease.
CONCLUSIONS: Evidence supporting clinical decision-making for different potassium binders to treat chronic hyperkalaemia in adults with CKD is of low certainty; no studies were identified in children. Available studies have not been designed to measure treatment effects on clinical outcomes such as cardiac arrhythmias or major GI symptoms. This review suggests the need for a large, adequately powered study of potassium binders versus placebo that assesses clinical outcomes of relevance to patients, clinicians and policy-makers. Effect of sodium bicarbonate on cardiovascular outcome and mortality in patients with advanced chronic kidney disease
Conclusion: The cohort study found that in real world practice, among patients with advanced CKD stage V, use of sodium bicarbonate was associated with similar risk of dialysis compared with non-users, Nonetheless, use of sodium bicarbonate was associated with significantly lower rate of MACE and mortality. The study results reinforced the benefits of sodium bicarbonate therapy in the expanding CKD population. Further prospective studies are needed to confirm these findings.
