Prevalence of ATTR-CA and high-risk features to guide testing in patients referred for TAVR
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of ATTR-CA may be lower in a contemporary TAVR population due to its expanded indication for low-risk patients. NT-pro BNP is a simple test that can improve screening yield and more judiciously guide screening for ATTR-CA in this at-risk population. Comparison of the original versus the proposed algorithm.PMID:37606857 | DOI:10.1007/s00259-023-06374-2

Are Exercise Interventions in Clinical Trials for Chronic Low Back Pain Dosed Appropriately to Meet the World Health Organization's Physical Activity Guidelines?
CONCLUSION: Few interventions tested in clinical trials for people with CLBP prescribe an exercise type and dose consistent with the WHO guidelines. Therefore, they do not appear sufficiently dosed to achieve broader health outcomes. Future trials should investigate the effect of WHO guideline-recommended exercise interventions on patient-reported outcomes (pain and disability) as well as health-related outcomes in people with CLBP.IMPACT: This exploratory analysis showed the lack of exercise interventions in the CLBP literature that meet the WHO's physical activity guidelines. With people in chronic pain groups, such as p...

Consensus statement for the management of incidentally found brain white matter hyperintensities in general medical practice
Med J Aust. 2023 Aug 21. doi: 10.5694/mja2.52079. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: There is a paradigm shift in our understanding of white matter hyperintensities (WMH) found on brain imaging. They were once thought to be a normal phenomenon of ageing and, therefore, warranted no further investigation. However, evidence now suggests these lesions are markers of poor brain and cardiovascular health, portending an increased risk of stroke, cognitive decline, depression and death. Nevertheless, no specific guidelines exist for the management of incidentally found WMH for general medical practitioners and other clin...

Reference Ranges for Body Composition Indices by Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry from the Bone Mineral Density in Childhood Study Cohort
CONCLUSIONS: These reference ranges add to sparse normative data regarding body composition in children and adolescents, and are based on a cohort with an obesity prevalence similar to current BMI charts. Awareness of subgroup differences aid in interpreting results.PMID:37598746 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajcnut.2023.08.006

An Applied Linguistics Study of How Students Prevent Embarrassments and Impositions During Interactive Examination OSCEs
CONCLUSION: Participants were less aware that discussing sensitive topics could cause embarrassment to patients, with the potential to upset them. Developing teaching and evaluation methods to consider patients' face needs could help in assessing and improving pharmacy students' communication skills.PMID:37597917 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajpe.2023.100103
