Features of Knee and Multi-joint Osteoarthritis by Sex and Race/Ethnicity: A Preliminary Analysis in the Johnston County Health Study
CONCLUSION: Preliminary findings in the diverse JoCoHS cohort suggest more lower extremity predominant MJOA in men compared to women. Women and Black participants had more KOA features and more severe symptoms. Hispanic participants appear to have higher pain and symptoms scores despite having fewer structural changes. Studies in diverse populations are needed to understand the burden of OA.PMID:37714542 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2023-0479

Clinical and Diagnostic Characteristics of Calcaneal Apophysitis: A Systematic Review and Thematic Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Calcaneal apophysitis is an overuse disease commonly found in the pediatric population. Educating parents and coaches with regard to its symptomatology, etiology, and treatment is essential to diagnose the condition earlier and provide better outcomes.PMID:37713414 | DOI:10.7547/22-083

Rural family physician use of point-of-care ultrasonography: experiences of primary care providers in British Columbia, Canada
CONCLUSION: This study has demonstrated the importance of PoCUS in improving patient care and facilitating timely diagnosis and treatment. As the use of PoCUS among FPs is relatively new in Canada, larger infrastructure support such as improving billing structures, long-term subsidies, educational opportunities, and a quality improvement framework is needed to support the use of PoCUS among rural FPs.PMID:37684568 | PMC:PMC10486031 | DOI:10.1186/s12875-023-02128-z

Creating Virtual Models and 3D Movies Using DemoMaker for Anatomical Education
Adv Exp Med Biol. 2023;1431:161-175. doi: 10.1007/978-3-031-36727-4_8.ABSTRACTThree-dimensional (3D) anatomy models have been used for education in health professional schools globally. Virtual technology has become more popular for online teaching since the COVID-19 pandemic. This chapter will describe a project in which a series of virtual anatomical models of organs and structures were developed for educational purposes, and it will describe in detail how to build three-dimensional (3D) movies using DemoMaker. Although setting up the 3D system was complicated and challenging, the process of reconstructing 3D models from...
