Awareness towards stroke among high school students in Brazil: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: There was a knowledge deficit with regard to recognizing stroke and activating the emergency medical services. The findings apply to the sample investigated and suggest that there is a need for stroke educational interventions, starting in high school.PMID:35508010 | DOI:10.1590/1516-3180.2021.0659.R2.13102021

Neurology care and the long-term outcomes of atrial fibrillation-related ischaemic stroke in China: median 3-year outcome from a high volume academic tertiary hospital
Conclusions Secondary stroke prevention in AF patients associated with neurology care is challenging in China, as manifested by a lower AF detection rate, significant underuse of OACs, high mortality and recurrent stroke rate. Efforts to increasing the AF detection rate and reinforce education on neurologists should be made to improve neurology care and intensify posthospital management in such patients.

Speech pathologists' experiences with stroke clinical practice guidelines and the barriers and facilitators influencing their use: a national descriptive study
Conclusions: There are many different factors that can influence speech pathologists' implementation of CPGs. The factors that influenced the implementation of CPGs can be understood in terms of knowledge creation and implementation frameworks. Speech pathologists should continue to adapt the stroke CPG to their local work environment and evaluate their use. To enhance guideline implementation, they may benefit from a combination of educational meetings and resources, outreach visits, support from senior colleagues, and audit and feedback strategies.

Interventions for improving modifiable risk factor control in the secondary prevention of stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: Pooled results indicated that educational interventions were not associated with clear differences in any of the review outcomes. The estimated effects of organisational interventions were compatible with improvements and no differences in several modifiable risk factors. We identified a large number of ongoing studies, suggesting that research in this area is increasing. The use of standardised outcome measures would facilitate the synthesis of future research findings. PMID: 24789063 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Interventions for post-stroke fatigue.
CONCLUSIONS: There was insufficient evidence on the efficacy of any intervention to treat or prevent fatigue after stroke. Trials to date have been small and heterogeneous, and some have had a high risk of bias. Some of the interventions described were feasible in people with stroke, but their efficacy should be investigated in RCTs with a more robust study design and adequate sample sizes. 144: the physiological information role for stroke patients
Conclusion: Each patient should be individually assessed on his or her readiness to receive information. Healthcare professionals should take a patient's age, gender, educational status and communication support needs into account when assessing their need for information. Information should be offered to patients in a variety of formats, including easy access and repeated and re-offered at appropriate intervals.

162: brisbane evidence-based language test, brisbane eblt: a new diagnostic test for the identification of acute post-stroke language disorders
Conclusion: The Brisbane EBLT is a new reliable, valid, acute post-stroke diagnostic language test. Test development has been guided by EBP principles to ensure it meets sound psychometric standards, meets patient and clinician needs and is suitable for use in the acute hospital environment. This research will directly contribute to the evidence-base of acute stroke care and assist in bringing practice in line with stroke clinical guideline recommendations.

Health-related quality of life in first-ever stroke patients
CONCLUSION: In this study, we found that age and functional status had a powerful influence on HRQOL. Comprehensive therapy programs aimed to improve HRQOL should focus on improving functional disability, particularly in older stroke patients. There is a need for long-term follow-up studies in stroke patients throughout all recovery stages to evaluate HRQOL in more detail.

Prestroke physical activity and outcomes after intracerebral haemorrhage in comparison to ischaemic stroke: protocol for a matched cohort study (part of PAPSIGOT)
Introduction Piling evidence suggests that a higher level of prestroke physical activity can decrease stroke severity, and reduce the risk of poststroke mortality. However, prior studies have only included ischaemic stroke cases, or a majority of such. We aim to investigate how premorbid physical activity influences admission stroke severity and poststroke mortality in patients with intracerebral haemorrhage, compared with ischaemic stroke. A prespecified analysis plan counteract some inherent biases in observational studies, and promotes transparency. Methods and analysis This is a statistical analysis protocol for a mat...

Community Socioeconomic and Urban-Rural Disparities in Prehospital Notification of Stroke by Emergency Medical Services in North Carolina
CONCLUSIONS: Across a large, diverse population, EMS prenotification occurred in only one-third of suspected stroke patients. Furthermore, low SES and rural tracts were independently associated with a lower likelihood of prehospital notification. These findings suggest the need for education and quality improvement initiatives to increase EMS stroke prenotification, particularly in underserved communities.PMID:37657786 | DOI:10.14423/SMJ.0000000000001601
