Gait Velocity and Joint Power Generation After Stroke: Contribution of Strength and Balance
Conclusions Ankle plantar flexor and hip flexor strength had the largest contribution to gait velocity. Future research may wish to refocus strength assessment and treatment to target the ankle plantar flexors and hip flexors. To Claim CME Credits Complete the self-assessment activity and evaluation online at http://www.physiatry.org/JournalCME CME Objectives Upon completion of this article, the reader should be able to: (1) Differentiate the contribution that lower limb strength of each muscle group has on gait velocity after stroke; (2) Appraise the relationship between isometric strength and joint power generati...

The role of theory to develop and evaluate a toolkit to increase clinical measurement and interpretation of walking speed and distance in adults post-stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: The approach may help to inform toolkit development to advance other rehabilitation practices of similar complexity. Implications for Rehabilitation Toolkits are an emerging knowledge translation intervention used to support widespread implementation of clinical practice guideline recommendations. Although experts recommend using theory to inform the development of knowledge translation interventions, there is little guidance on a suitable approach. This study describes an approach to using theories, models and frameworks to design a toolkit and implementation strategy, and a process evaluation of toolkit impl...

Do clinical guidelines guide clinical practice in stroke rehabilitation? An international survey of health professionals
CONCLUSION: While many health professionals were aware of clinical guidelines, they identified multiple barriers to their implementation. Efforts should be made to raise awareness of local guidelines in low- and middle-income countries. More attention should be paid to addressing local contextual factors to improve guideline use internationally, going beyond traditional strategies focused on individual health professionals.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONSystems are required so people and organisations are held accountable to deliver evidence-based care in stroke rehabilitation.Locally developed stroke rehabilitation guidel...

mHealth technologies used to capture walking and arm use behavior in adult stroke survivors: a scoping review beyond measurement properties
CONCLUSIONS: This provides an initial foundation for a field experiencing rapid growth, new opportunities and the promise that mHealth technologies affords for envisioning a better future for stroke survivors. We synthesized findings into a set of recommendations for clinicians and clinician-scientists about how best to choose mHealth technologies for one's individual objective.Implications for RehabilitationRehabilitation professionals are encouraged to consider the measurement properties of those technologies that are used to monitor functional locomotor and object-interaction skills in the stroke survivors they serve.Mu...

Recent trends in telerehabilitation of stroke patients: A narrative review
CONCLUSIONS: The review shows TR is superior or similar to conventional rehabilitation in clinical outcomes and is used as complementary therapy or as alternative treatments. More importantly, TR provides access to rehabilitation services of a large number of patients with immobility, living in remote areas, and during COVID-19 pandemic or similar events.PMID:35527574 | DOI:10.3233/NRE-210330
