Short-term multifactorial intervention (STEMI): An approach using structured blood glucose monitoring (BGM) and conventional therapies in persons with diabetes
CONCLUSIONS: An intensive glucose optimization program using structured BGM qid plus 7-point profiles, diabetes education, and conventional anti-diabetic therapies was successful in reducing HbA1c by 1.38% over 8 weeks in patients with poor glucose control.PMID:37649768 | PMC:PMC10465056 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_2172_22

Investigation of Pancreatic-beta cells Role in the Biological Process of Ageing
CONCLUSION: Aging accelerates beta cell senescence by generating premature cell senescence, which is mostly mediated by high glucose levels. Despite higher plasma glucose levels, hepatic gluconeogenesis accelerates and adipose tissue lipolysis rises, resulting in an increase in free fatty acid levels in the blood and worsening insulin resistance throughout the body.PMID:37608675 | DOI:10.2174/1871530323666230822095932

Newly diagnosed type 2  diabetes - does New Zealand General Practice adequately prepare patients to self-manage their Condition?
CONCLUSIONS: Primary care appears to be providing most newly diagnosed patients with appropriate resources to understand and manage their T2D, but there is room for improvement with up to a third of participants not understanding how to manage foods, medication and lifestyle choices to optimise health outcomes. Further work is required to address this gap and should include the use of culturally-appropriate materials to meet the multi-ethnic population needs.PMID:37605190 | PMC:PMC10441743 | DOI:10.1186/s12875-023-02118-1

Fight Aging! Newsletter, August 21st 2023
This study aimed to investigate the association between frailty index and circulating CAP2 concentration in 467 community-dwelling older adults (median age: 79; range: 65-92 years). The selected robust regression model showed that circulating CAP2 concentration was not associated with chronological age, as well as sex and education. However, circulating CAP2 concentration was significantly and inversely associated with the frailty index: a 0.1-unit increase in frailty index leads to ~0.5-point mean decrease in CAP2 concentration. Furthermore, mean CAP2 concentration was significantly lower in frail participants (i.e., fr...

Analysis of the relationship between mild cognitive impairment and serum klotho protein and insulin-like growth factor-1 in the elderly
CONCLUSION: High serum K1 and insulin-like growth factor-1 are the protective factors of cognitive impairment in MCI patients. Both IGF-1 and serum K1 proteins have predictive value for MCI, and the combination of the two indicators has the highest predictive value.PMID:37599547 | DOI:10.3233/THC-230462
