Efficacy and safety of tetracyclines for pemphigoid: a systematic review and meta-analysis
AbstractThe aim of this review was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of tetracyclines for treatment of pemphigoid. We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Ovid, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library for studies involving pemphigoid patients treated with tetracyclines published in English before 29 February 2020. References of included studies were also screened to widen the scope of the literature search. Data regarding predefined clinical outcomes of 341 patients from 77 studies were extracted and analyzed. A meta-analysis was conducted on the basis of 4 studies including 2 randomized controlled trials and 2 comparative studies....

Systemic Treatment of Cutaneous Adverse Events After Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor Therapy: A Review
Dermatitis. 2021 Aug 16. doi: 10.1097/DER.0000000000000776. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAs treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors (CPIs) for cancer increases, so has the incidence of immune-related cutaneous adverse events (irCAEs). These toxicities can significantly impact quality of life and may be dose-limiting. Current guidelines for irCAEs offer only corticosteroids or CPI discontinuation. Evidence supports biologic immunomodulatory therapies when corticosteroids fail or need avoidance. A review of literature from 2010 to 2020 yielded 45 articles, resulting in 185 irCAEs, including bullous pemphigoid-like erupt...

Purchase of prophylactic topical corticosteroids is associated with improved survival in NSCLCs treated with EGFR TKI: real-world cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Prophylactic topical corticosteroids may improve the survival of NSCLC patients treated with EGFR TKIs, and they should be considered as prophylaxis when initiating EGFR TKIs with a high incidence of rash.PMID:34137354 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2021.1937309

Head-to-head oral prophylactic antibiotic therapy for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
CONCLUSIONS: It is not clear from the evidence included in this review whether there is a difference in efficacy or safety between different classes or regimens of prophylactic antibiotic, given for 12 to 13 weeks to people with COPD. Whilst no head-to-head comparisons of antibiotic resistance were identified, concerns about this continue. The sample size in this review is small and both included studies are of short duration. Thus, there is considerable uncertainty in effects observed and the effects of different prophylactic antibiotics requires further research. PMID: 31125127 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Systemic and topical antibiotics for chronic rhinosinusitis.
CONCLUSIONS: We found very little evidence that systemic antibiotics are effective in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis. We did find moderate quality evidence of a modest improvement in disease-specific quality of life in adults with chronic rhinosinusitis without polyps receiving three months of a macrolide antibiotic. The size of improvement was moderate (0.5 points on a five-point scale) and only seen at the end of the three-month treatment; by three months later no difference was found.Despite a general understanding that antibiotics can be associated with adverse effects, including gastrointestinal disturbances, th...
