The characterization and correlation between the phenotypic and genotypic resistance of < em > Campylobacter < /em > spp < em > . < /em > isolates from commercial broilers and native chickens in the south of Thailand
Avian Pathol. 2023 Sep 18:1-49. doi: 10.1080/03079457.2023.2260322. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAbstractChicken is a major reservoir and source of human infections from zoonotic Campylobacter. In southern Thailand, chicken is the most popular meat consumed; however, little is known about the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) of Campylobacter spp. in chicken production systems. We aimed to investigate the prevalence and characteristics of AMR in Campylobacter isolates from commercial broiler and native chicken farms in southern Thailand. A total of 286 Campylobacter isolates (adjusted prevalence: 60.3%, SE ±0.01) were recov...

Prevalence and Antimicrobial-Resistant Features of < em > Shigella < /em > Species in East Africa from 2015-2022: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSION: The pooled estimate indicates high burden of Shigella infection in East Africa, as well as a high proportion of drug resistance pattern to tetracycline, ampicillin, chloramphenicol, and amoxicillin. Therefore, initiating and scale-up of performing drug susceptibility test for each shigellosis case need to be considered and strengthened.PMID:37692062 | PMC:PMC10492654 | DOI:10.1155/2023/8277976

Whole genome sequencing-based cataloguing of antibiotic resistant genes in piggery waste borne samples
Gene. 2023 Sep 7:147786. doi: 10.1016/j.gene.2023.147786. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe growing use of antibiotics in livestock is one of the main causes of the rapid global spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). However, extensive research on AMR in animals is currently absent. In this article, we provide the bacterial antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) from piggery waste samples in West Bengal, India, based on whole genome sequencing (WGS). According to the study, there are alarmingly high levels of Enterobacteriaceae in piggery waste, especially slaughterhouse waste, that are resistant to beta-lactam, aminoglycos...

Are we missing the silver lining of COVID-19 pandemic: An analytical study to determine effects of three COVID-19 peaks on antimicrobial susceptibility of < em > Staphylococcus aureus < /em > isolates
CONCLUSIONS: This study reveals a sharp decline in overall resistance to commonly prescribed antibiotic agents for S. aureus isolates after first peak of COVID-19 cases. However, same trend was not observed in subsequent peaks and probably we are approaching the same resistance levels that were seen prior to COVID-19 pandemic.PMID:37649748 | PMC:PMC10465057 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_2420_22
