Incidence and risk factors of transient hypothyroxinemia of prematurity: a prospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: THOP is frequently found in preterm infants. An extremely low gestational age, a low Apgar score, and the use of certain medications in the NICU are risk factors for the development of THOP. Therefore, a thyroid screening program should be implemented for evaluating congenital hypothyroidism (CH) and THOP in preterm neonates in all settings.PMID:37661671 | DOI:10.24953/turkjped.2023.94

Ketamine metabolite alleviates morphine withdrawal-induced anxiety via modulating nucleus accumbens parvalbumin neurons in male mice
Neurobiol Dis. 2023 Sep 1:106279. doi: 10.1016/j.nbd.2023.106279. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOpioid withdrawal generates extremely unpleasant physical symptoms and negative affective states. A rapid relief of opioid withdrawal-induced anxiety has obvious clinical relevance but has been rarely reported. We have shown that injection of ketamine metabolite (2R,6R)-hydroxynorketamine (HNK) leads to a rapid alleviation of anxiety-like behaviors in male mice undergoing chronic morphine withdrawal. Here we investigated the contribution of nucleus accumbens shell (sNAc) parvalbumin (PV)-neurons to this process. Chronic morphine...

Impact of short-course palliative radiotherapy on pancreatic cancer-related pain: Prospective phase II non-randomized PAINPANC trial
CONCLUSIONS: Short-course palliative radiotherapy for pancreatic cancer-related pain was associated with rapid, clinically relevant reduction in pain severity, and clinically relevant improvement in global QoL, with mostly mild toxicity.PMID:37647972 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijrobp.2023.08.055

Factors Associated With Increased Opioid Prescriptions Following Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction in Opioid-Na ïve Patients
CONCLUSIONS: Older age and preoperative diagnosis of depression are associated with greater opioid doses after ACLR. In addition, the vast majority of opioid prescriptions are written by orthopaedic surgeons on the day of ACLR and decreased considerably by four weeks after surgery. Patients receiving opioid prescriptions by nonorthopaedic surgeon medical providers receive significantly greater doses.LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level IV, retrospective cohort study.PMID:37645399 | PMC:PMC10461142 | DOI:10.1016/j.asmr.2023.04.023
