Inhibitory effect of berberine on morphine tolerance and hyperalgesia in mice
CONCLUSIONS: Berberine could effectively enhance and prolong the duration of morphine analgesia and inhibit the development of morphine-induced tolerance and hyperalgesia. Furthermore, berberine has a certain neuroprotective effect, which may be related to the inhibition of NMDA activity.PMID:37679979 | PMC:PMC10465842 | DOI:10.19852/j.cnki.jtcm.20230802.006

Use of opioids among pregnant women 1997-2016: A Danish drug utilization study
CONCLUSIONS: Overall use of opioids was stable from 2007 to 2016. This covers a decline in the use of codeine, but a 3-fold increase in tramadol. The number of pregnant women who continued use throughout pregnancy decreased, while OMEQ among persistent users increased. The real-world data suggest an unmet need of specific focus in local Danish Outpatient Clinics and Multidisciplinary Pain Centers both pre-conceptionally and during pregnancy.PMID:37683461 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejogrb.2023.08.375

Virtual Reality Distraction for Reducing Acute Postoperative Pain After Hip Arthroplasty: A Randomized Trial
CONCLUSIONS: We did not observe statistically significant or clinically meaningful reductions in average pain scores or opioid consumption. As used in our trial, virtual reality did not reduce acute postoperative pain.PMID:37678233 | DOI:10.1213/ANE.0000000000006642

Cu, I-doped carbon dots as simulated nanozymes for the colorimetric detection of morphine in biological samples
Anal Biochem. 2023 Sep 5:115313. doi: 10.1016/j.ab.2023.115313. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAs newly developed synthetic enzymes with exceptional catalytic capabilities and outstanding stability, nanozymes have drawn considerable interest in the realm of sensing. Using a simple hydrothermal process, iodine and copper-doped carbon dots (Cu,I-CDs) with simulated enzymes were fabricated in the current investigation. Cu,I-CDs demonstrate peroxidase-mimicking function together with high catalytic effectiveness due to aforementioned features. This led to generation of a colorimetric sensor for quick and accurate quantitative a...
