Co-administration of Thymoquinone and Propolis in Liposomal Formulations as a Potential Approach for Treatment of Acetic Acid-Induced Ulcerative Colitis: Physiological and Histopathological Analysis
This study is aimed at assessing the potential of liposomal formulations of TQ and Egyptian PP in combination therapy on improving their therapeutic efficacy against ulcerative colitis in order to maximize the potential of their beneficial clinical effects. Clinical, biochemical, and histological evaluations of colonic mucosal damage and inflammation were evaluated. The results exhibited a significant increase in tissue MDA, TNFα, and nitrite levels with activation of caspase-3 in the acetic acid-induced colitis group, which is predominantly downregulated in the treatment groups. The prepared formulations of TQ and PP rev...

A novel PPAR β/FFA1 dual agonist Y8 promotes diabetic wound healing
CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that PPARβ/FFA1 dual agonist Y8 has the effect of promoting the healing of diabetic ulcer wounds in vivo and in vitro, and its therapeutic effect is better than that of single-target agonists.PMID:37562666 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejphar.2023.175934

A drug-incorporated-microparticle-eggshell-membrane-scaffold (DIMES) dressing: a novel biomaterial for localised wound regeneration
This study aimed to develop a biocompatible bandage made of drug-incorporated poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) microparticles (MPs) and eggshell membrane (ESM) for cornea wound healing. ESM has desirable properties for wound healing and can be isolated from eggshells using acetic acid or ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) protocols. Fluorescein isothiocyanate-labelled Bovine Serum Albumin (FITC-BSA) was used as a model drug, and the PLGA MPs were fabricated using a solvent extraction method. The MPs were successfully attached to the fibrous layer of the ESM using NaOH. The surface features of the ESM samples conta...

Unripe fruits of Litchi chinensis (Gaertn.) Sonn: An overview of its toxicity
Ann Pharm Fr. 2023 Jul 11:S0003-4509(23)00073-1. doi: 10.1016/j.pharma.2023.07.004. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLitchi (Litchi chinensis) is a widely consumed fruit that has been used in many food and health-promoting products worldwide. Litchi is a good source of nutrients including vitamin and minerals, dietary fibers, proteins, and carbohydrates. Of note, several studies have reported that the constituents of litchi fruits elicit antioxidant properties and help to maintain blood pressure, and reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack. An unclearly explained outbreak occurred in June 2019 in Muzaffarpur (Bihar), India...

Low and high doses of oral maslinic acid protect against Parkinson's disease via distinct gut microbiota-related mechanisms
In conclusion, oral MA at different doses protected against PD via distinct mechanisms related to GM. Nevertheless, our study lacked in-depth investigations of the underlying mechanisms involved; future studies will be designed to further delineate the signaling pathways involved in the interactive actions between different doses of MA and GM.PMID:37418977 | DOI:10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115100

Genistein and/or sulfasalazine ameliorate acetic acid-induced ulcerative colitis in rats via modulating INF- γ/JAK1/STAT1/IRF-1, TLR-4/NF-κB/IL-6, and JAK2/STAT3/COX-2 crosstalk
Biochem Pharmacol. 2023 Jul 4:115673. doi: 10.1016/j.bcp.2023.115673. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTUlcerative Colitis (UC) is a chronic idiopathic inflammatory bowel disease in which the colon's lining becomes inflamed. Exploring herbal remedies that can recover mucosal damage is becoming popular in UC. The study aims to investigate the probable colo-protective effect of a natural isoflavone, genistein (GEN), and/or a drug, sulfasalazine (SZ), against acetic acid (AA)-induced UC in rats, in addition to exploring the possible underlying mechanisms. UC was induced by the intrarectal installation of 1-2 ml of 5% diluted AA f...
