Deep brain stimulation for movement disorders after stroke: a systematic review of the literature
CONCLUSIONS: This is the first systematic review of DBS for poststroke movement disorders. Overall, most studies to date have been case reports and small series reporting heterogeneous patients and surgical strategies. This review suggests that DBS for movement disorders after a stroke has the potential to be effective and safe for diverse patients, and DBS may be a feasible option to improve function even years after a stroke.PMID:36308482 | DOI:10.3171/2022.8.JNS221334

Predictors of 30-day hospital readmission after mechanical thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: The study data demonstrate that hypertension, length of hospital stay, and hemorrhagic conversion were predictors of 30-day hospital readmission in stroke patients after mechanical thrombectomy. Infection was the most common cause of 30-day readmission, followed by cardiac and cerebrovascular diagnoses. These results therefore may serve to identify patients within the stroke population who require increased surveillance following discharge to reduce complications and unplanned readmissions. O-004 A multicenter study evaluating the frequency and burden of mechanical thrombectomy on stroke centers
Conclusion This is the first study to quantify the time requirement of mechanical thrombectomy and the call burden on neurointerventional physicians at stroke centers. Over a three month period at 10 stroke centers across the United States, mechanical thrombectomy procedures occurred once every 5 days on average, although nearly 60% occurred during non-work hours. ConclusionIn this multicenter study, MT for distal ACA occlusions in the A2/A3 segments seem to be feasible and associated with low complication and symptomatic hemorrhage rates. E-096 COVID status is related to clot burden during thrombectomy in acute stroke patients
ConclusionOf 230 patients included in this interim analysis across 24 centers in the United States, between 02/2021 and 01/2022, 16 patients had a history of COVID. Comparing COVID-positive to non-positive, patients with COVID were younger (median 66.5 years vs 71.5 years, p 0.042), and had more intracranial clot by weight (median 101.0 mg vs 42.0 mg, p 0.047). There was a trend toward COVID positive patients to have more clot volume (median 180 cc vs 77.5 cc p 0.08), suggesting the difference was a higher clot burden instead of more density to the thrombus. ConclusionFor patients with late presentation stroke, aspiration thrombectomy with the Penumbra System in anterior circulations is safe and effective. Mechanical thrombectomy beyond the circle of Willis: efficacy and safety of different techniques for M2 occlusions
Conclusion Stent-retrievers and a combined approach for M2 occlusions seem more effective than direct aspiration, but with higher rates of iSAH. This leads to no detectable difference in clinical outcome at 3 months.

Conclusion193 patients were included in this interim analysis across 23 centers in the United States, between 02/2021 and 11/2021. For the EPHB1 SNP (rs13073658), Table 1 shows the numbers and proportions of patients with varying expressions of the SNP. While no patients 50 or older were homozygous for the SNP, 16% of those under 50 years old were. DEFUSE-3 Trial: Reinforcing Evidence for Extended Endovascular Intervention Time Window for Ischemic Stroke
The incidence of ischemic stroke in the United States is 3.29 per 1000 persons per year, making it the first and fourth greatest causes of disability and mortality, respectively.1 Previous randomized clinical trials (RCTs) investigating acute ischemic stroke (AIS) due to large-vessel occlusion (LVO) have shown that endovascular intervention is clinically beneficial when performed within 6 hours of onset.2-7 A few of these RCTs had perfusion imaging inclusion criteria, showing superior results when compared with similar RCTs without such criteria.

Trends in acute ischemic stroke treatments and mortality in the United States from 2012 to 2018
CONCLUSIONS: From 2012 to 2018, use of tPA and MT increased significantly, irrespective of age, while mortality decreased in the entire AIS population. The most dramatic decrease in mortality was seen in the MT-treated population.
