The assessment of pathological response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in muscle-invasive bladder cancer patients with DCE-MRI and DWI: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis demonstrated high diagnostic performance of both DCE-MRI and DWI in predicting the pathological response to NAC in MIBC. DWI might be a potential substitute for DCE-MRI, with no significant difference in diagnostic performance between the two. However, caution should be taken when applying our results, as our results were based on indirect comparison.ADVANCES IN KNOWLEDGE: No previous studies have comprehensively analysed the value of DCE-MRI and DWI in evaluating the pathological response to NAC in MIBC. According to the current study, both DCE-MRI and DWI yielded high diagnostic performance...

Targeting carcinoma-associated mesothelial cells with antibody-drug conjugates in ovarian carcinomatosis
J Pathol. 2023 Aug 9. doi: 10.1002/path.6170. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOvarian carcinomatosis is characterized by the accumulation of carcinoma-associated mesothelial cells (CAMs) in the peritoneal stroma and mainly originates through a mesothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (MMT) process. MMT has been proposed as a therapeutic target for peritoneal metastasis. Most ovarian cancer (OC) patients present at diagnosis with peritoneal seeding, which makes tumor progression control difficult by MMT modulation. An alternative approach is to use antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) targeted directly to attack CAMs. This strategy c...

Predictive value of baseline serum carbohydrate antigen 19-9 level on treatment effect of neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy in patients with resectable and borderline resectable pancreatic cancer in two randomized trials
CONCLUSION: Baseline serum CA19-9 level defined as either high or low has prognostic value, but was not associated with the treatment effect of neoadjuvant CRT in patients with resectable and borderline resectable pancreatic cancers, in contrast with current guideline advice.PMID:37440421 | DOI:10.1093/bjs/znad210

Predicting the response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Can the addition of tomosynthesis improve the accuracy of contrast-enhanced spectral mammography? A comparison with breast MRI
CONCLUSIONS: CESM is similar to MRI for predicting residual disease post-NACT. Size of enhancement alone demonstrates best concordance with invasive disease. Inclusion of residual microcalcification improves concordance with ductal carcinoma in situ. The addition of DBT to CESM does not improve accuracy.ADVANCES IN KNOWLEDGE: The addition ofDBT to CESM does not improve NACT response prediction.CESM enhancement has greatest accuracy for residual invasive disease, CESM+calcification has greater accuracy for residual in situ disease.PMID:37399083 | DOI:10.1259/bjr.20220921

Total neoadjuvant therapy versus standard neoadjuvant treatment strategies for the management of locally advanced rectal cancer: network meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials
CONCLUSION: This study provides further evidence that TNT has improved survival and recurrence benefits compared with current standards of care, and may increase the number of patients suitable for organ preservation, without negatively influencing treatment toxicity or compliance.PMID:37330950 | DOI:10.1093/bjs/znad177
