Comparison of conventional and modern methods in determining ischemic stroke etiology by general and stroke neurologists
Conclusion: The CCS system improved compliance in both stroke and general neurologists compared with TOAST. This suggests that the automatic, evidence-based, easily reproducible CCS system was superior to the TOAST system. PMID: 30764594 [PubMed - in process]

Sex differences in the associations of socioeconomic status with stroke in the Turkish Population
ConclusionsIn this Turkish population, stroke risk was greater in women than in men. Increasing education was associated with a reduced risk of stroke in Turkish women, whereas the only completion of primary education was protective for men, with no further protection at increased educational levels. Further exploration of sex and gender risk differences in moderate-income countries may lead to improved efforts at risk reduction.Key messagesEducation level as a social determinant of health in middle-income countries may affect men and women differently with regards to the risk of strokeUnderstanding sex differences in the ...

The effects of early neurodevelopmental Bobath approach and mobilization on quadriceps muscle thickness in stroke patients
Conclusion: It can be seen that QMT can be preserved and functional improvements can be provided through intense physiotherapy and mobilization initiated in the early period following stroke. PMID: 30761855 [PubMed - in process]

Scanning of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation as an etiological risk factor in patients with acute ischemic stroke: prospective study
CONCLUSIONS: Detecting the presence of PAF by screening patients with no AF in the ECG through Holter ECG examinations is valuable in terms of changing the course of the treatment. It should be kept in mind that the possibility of accompanying PAF cannot be ruled out in the presence of other factors that pose a risk of stroke.PMID:35195235 | DOI:10.1590/1516-3180.2021.0156.R2.08062021

Prevalence and prognosis of intracranial stenosis in acute ischemic stroke; a single center registry from Turkey
Conclusion: ICS was seen in 11.6% of acute ischemic stroke cases in our registry. DM appears to be the major risk factor for ICS. Disability was better in patients with ICS. Ethnicity could be a factor causing better disability. PMID: 29153338 [PubMed]

Physiological and pharmacological roles of melatonin in the pathophysiological components of cellular injury after ischemic stroke.
Authors: KiliÇ E, ÇaĞlayan B, Caglar Beker M Abstract Apart from its metabolic or physiological functions, melatonin has a potent cytoprotective activity in the physiological and pathological conditions. It is synthetized by the pineal gland and released into the blood circulation but particularly cerebrospinal fluid in a circadian manner. It can also easily diffuse through cellular membranes due its small size and lipophilic structure. Its cytoprotective activity has been linked to its potent free radical scavenger activity with the desirable characteristics of a clinically- reliable antioxidant. Melatonin deto...
