This study aimed to investigate the association between frailty index and circulating CAP2 concentration in 467 community-dwelling older adults (median age: 79; range: 65-92 years). The selected robust regression model showed that circulating CAP2 concentration was not associated with chronological age, as well as sex and education. However, circulating CAP2 concentration was significantly and inversely associated with the frailty index: a 0.1-unit increase in frailty index leads to ~0.5-point mean decrease in CAP2 concentration. Furthermore, mean CAP2 concentration was significantly lower in frail participants (i.e., fr...

Dietary palmitic acid to oleic acid ratio modulates energy metabolism and biological rhythms in young healthy Japanese males
Br J Nutr. 2023 Aug 14:1-38. doi: 10.1017/S0007114523001770. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe present study investigated the potential role of the composition of dietary fatty acids in the regulation of biological rhythms, such as the sleep architecture, core body temperature, and leukocyte clock gene expression, in subjects fed meals rich in palmitic acid or oleic acid.Eleven males participated in two sessions of indirect calorimetry in a whole-room metabolic chamber. In each session, subjects consumed three meals rich in palmitic acid (44.3% of total fat as palmitic acid and 42.3% as oleic acid) or oleic acid (11.7% of ...

Sources of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Fecal Pellets of a < em > Marphysa < /em > Species (Annelida: Eunicidae) in the Yoro Tidal Flat, Japan
Zoolog Sci. 2023 Aug;40(4):292-299. doi: 10.2108/zs230020.ABSTRACTThe fecal pellets of Marphysa sp. E sensu Abe et al. (2019) (Annelida, Eunicidae) living in the Yoro tidal flat (Ichihara, Chiba, Japan) contain high levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and the concentrations rapidly decrease over time. To investigate the origin of the high-concentration PAHs in the fecal pellets and food sources of the worms, the PAH concentrations, carbon and nitrogen stable isotope ratios (δ13C and δ15N), total organic carbon, and total nitrogen for two types of sediment (sands and reduced muds), fecal pellets, and the bo...
