The diagnostic and prognostic performance of Lp-PLA2 in acute ischemic stroke.
CONCLUSION: High serum Lp-PLA2 level is correlated with AIS incidence, disease severity and recurrence, which could be utilized to guide clinical practice. PMID: 33483146 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Dynamic derangement in amino acid profile during and after a stroke-like episode in adult-onset mitochondrial disease: a case report
ConclusionsGrowth differentiation factor-15 can be used not only for the diagnosis of mitochondrial disease, but as an indicator of its acute exacerbation. A stroke-like episode of mitochondrial myopathy, encephalopathy, lactic acidosis, and stroke-like episodes reflects a drastic derangement of multiple amino acids. The involvement of aspartic acid in the episodes should be explored in future studies.

Impact of areal socioeconomic status on prehospital delay of acute ischaemic stroke: retrospective cohort study from a prefecture-wide survey in Japan
Conclusions Living in socioeconomically disadvantaged municipalities was associated with prehospital delays of acute ischaemic stroke in non-capital areas in Kochi prefecture, Japan. Poorer outcomes of those patients may be caused by delayed treatment of intravenous rt-PA and endovascular reperfusion therapy. Further studies are necessary to determine social risk factors in the capital areas. Trial registration number This article is linked to a clinical trial to UMIN000050189, No.: R000057166 and relates to its Result stage.

Soluble C-type lectin-like receptor 2 in stroke (CLECSTRO) study: protocol of a multicentre, prospective cohort of a novel platelet activation marker in acute ischaemic stroke and transient ischaemic attack
This study was approved by the Ethical Committee of the University of Yamanashi as the central ethical committee in agreement with the ethical committees of all collaborative stroke centres. Informed consent will be obtained by an opt-out form from the patients at each stroke centre according to the Ethical Guidelines for Medical and Biological Research Involving Human Subjects by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. Aortic dissection diagnosed on stroke computed tomography protocol: a case report
ConclusionsWhen acute stroke is suspected due to neurological deficits, plain head CT is the first choice for imaging diagnosis. The addition of cervical CT angiography can reliably exclude stroke due to aortic dissection. CTP can identify ischemic penumbra, which cannot be diagnosed by plain head CT or diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging. These combined stroke CT protocols helped us avoid missing an aortic dissection.

Correspondence Unmet challenges for rehabilitation after stroke in China
Stroke is an important public health problem in China, and is one of the leading causes of death and disability. About 2 โ€ˆ500โ€ˆ000 people have a stroke in China every year, and 70โ€“80% of patients lose the ability to perform routine activities and require care, resulting in an economic burden for both the country and their family.1 Japan has a similar incidence of stroke because of similar ancestry, but outcomes a fter stroke are better in Japan than in China. In Japan, 64ยท2% of young patients (age

Randomised placebo-controlled multicentre trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of JTR-161, allogeneic human dental pulp stem cells, in patients with Acute Ischaemic stRoke (J-REPAIR)
Introduction JTR-161 is a novel allogeneic human cell product consisting of dental pulp stem cells isolated from the extracted teeth of healthy adults. It is currently under development as a cell-based therapy for ischaemic stroke. The aim of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of JTR-161 in patients with acute ischaemic stroke when given as a single intravenous administration within 48 hours of symptom onset. Methods and analysis This is a first-in-human, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicentre, phase 1/2 clinical trial to be conducted in Japan (from January 2019 to July 2021). Patients wi...

Incidence of stroke, systemic embolism and bleeding events in patients without anticoagulation based on real-world data in Japan: a retrospective cohort study
Conclusions Approximately one-third of the patients do not receive any anticoagulation in the modern DOAC era in Japan. The SSE rate increases by the CHADS2 score. The SSE rate is low in patients with a CHADS2 score <1, supporting no indication of anticoagulation in current guidelines. In patients with a CHADS2 score >1, the use of anticoagulant drug therapy is recommended because of a higher risk of stroke.

Status of Acute Stroke Practice in Patients with a Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device
Acta Med Okayama. 2021 Dec;75(6):691-697. doi: 10.18926/AMO/62808.ABSTRACTAlthough diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for acute stroke patients in Japan depend largely on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIED) must still rely on com-puted tomography (CT). We retrospectively analyzed clinical and neuroimaging data of ischemic stroke patients with CIED treated at our hospital. Forty-five patients were enrolled in the study. Patients were divided into two groups according to whether corresponding lesions were detected (group A, n = 21) or not detected (group B, n = 24)...
