Impact of compounded drugs on the caregivers' burden of home therapy management in pediatric palliative care: A descriptive study
CONCLUSIONS: The therapy management of children with medical complexity relies on parents. Galenic compounds may improve both patients' and caregivers' quality of life, either in terms of shorter time of administration or smaller risk of errors. Therefore, their use should be encouraged worldwide, according to the different reference rules.PMID:36732899 | DOI:10.1177/02692163231151733

Brain Gray Matter MRI Morphometry for Neuroprognostication After Cardiac Arrest
Conclusions: These findings are consistent with the hypothesis of pathologic disruption of a striatopallidal-thalamo-cortical mesocircuit induced by cardiac arrest and pave the way for the use of combined brain quantitative morphometry in this setting.

Severe viral respiratory infections in the pre-COVID era: A 5-year experience in two pediatric intensive care units in Italy
CONCLUSIONS: Early identification of patients who could have a sudden respiratory deterioration and need of mechanical ventilation is crucial to reduce complications due to orotracheal intubation and prolonged hospitalization in PICU. Further studies are needed to define high-risk group of patients and to design targeted interventions.PMID:36193621 | DOI:10.1111/irv.13038

Oral Care Protocols With Specialty Training Lead to Safe Oral Care Practices and Reduce Iatrogenic Bleeding in Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Patients.
CONCLUSION: Oral care can cause bleeding in patients on VV-ECMO. Implementation of protocols for daily oral care in patients on ECMO may reduce risks. As recommended by the literature, this category of patients should be treated in selected centers distinguished by a regular volume of ECMO activity and the presence of dedicated ECMO specialist nurses.
