Advancements in Nipah virus treatment: Analysis of current progress in vaccines, antivirals, and therapeutics
Immunology. 2023 Sep 15. doi: 10.1111/imm.13695. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNipah virus (NiV) causes severe encephalitis in humans. Three NiV strains NiV-Malaysia (NiVM ), NiV Bangladesh (NiVB ), and NiV India (NiVI reported in 2019) have been circulating in South-Asian nations. Sporadic outbreak observed in South-East Asian countries but human to human transmission raises the concern about its pandemic potential. The presence of the viral genome in reservoir bats has further confirmed that NiV has spread to the African and Australian continents. NiV research activities have gained momentum to achieve specific preparedn...

Evaluation of dynamics of immune responses and protective efficacy in piglets immunized with an inactivated porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome vaccine candidate
In this study, we investigated the protective efficacy of an inactivated PRRS virus vaccine candidate and evaluated the differences in PRRSV specific anamnestic response in piglets when challenged with live PRRSV at two different intervals post-immunization. Six-week-old piglets were immunized intramuscularly with an inactivated, Montanide ISA-206 adjuvanted Indian PRRSV isolate, followed by a booster dose at 21 days post-immunization. Homologous live PRRS virus challenge was done on 60 and 180 days post-booster (dpb). We assessed humoral and cell-mediated immune responses at various intervals post-immunization and after c...

Biotechnology in India - An Analysis of Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC)-Supported Projects
Chembiochem. 2023 Sep 5:e202300302. doi: 10.1002/cbic.202300302. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA comprehensive analysis of 2.165 projects funded by India's Department of Biotechnology since 2005 through private-public partnerships, and as of 2012 through the 'Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC)' until BIRAC's tenth anniversary end of March 2022 reveals details of the science and technology underpinning past and current biotechnology research and development projects in the country. They are led by human healthcare projects (74,9% overall), of which medical technology (58,7%) and therapeutics (24,5%) ...

A novel HRM-based gap-qRT-PCR for identification and quantitation of the vaccine and field strain(s) of lumpy skin disease virus
J Immunol Methods. 2023 Jun 29;519:113521. doi: 10.1016/j.jim.2023.113521. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLumpy skin disease (LSD) has become the most important animal health problem in India due to high morbidity, mortality and production losses caused by it. A homologous live-attenuated LSD vaccine (Lumpi-ProVacInd) was recently developed by using a local LSD virus (LSDV) strain (LSDV/2019/India/Ranchi) in India which is likely to replace the existing practice of vaccinating cattle with goatpox vaccine. It is essential to differentiate the vaccine and field strains, if a live-attenuated vaccine has been used for control a...
