Antibiotic prophylaxis for corneal abrasion
CONCLUSIONS: Given the low to very low certainty of the available evidence, any beneficial effects of antibiotic prophylaxis in preventing ocular infection or accelerating epithelial healing following a corneal abrasion remain unclear. Moreover, the current evidence is insufficient to support any antibiotic regimen being superior to another. There is a need for a well-designed RCT assessing the efficacy and safety of ocular antibiotics in the treatment of corneal abrasion with a particular focus on high-risk populations and formulation of interventions.PMID:35622535 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD014617.pub2

Turning PBM " Arbitrage " On Its Head: Bypassing Insurance to Save
The word of the day is " arbitrage " . Officially, Merriam-Webster defines the English language word " arbitrage " this way: " The nearly simultaneous purchase and sale of securities or foreign exchange in different markets in order to profit from price discrepancies " . However, arbitrage does not exclusively apply to securities sold on Wall Street. The term has also been adopted by the Pharmacy Benefit Manager ( " PBM " ) industry. But PBM ' s are not Wall Street investment banks. And that ' s something we all need to realize. The PBM Accountability Project 2021 report " Understanding the Evolving Business Model...

School dental screening programmes for oral health
CONCLUSIONS: The evidence is insufficient to draw conclusions about whether there is a role for school dental screening in improving dental attendance. We are uncertain whether traditional screening is better than no screening (very low-certainty evidence). Criteria-based screening may improve dental attendance when compared to no screening (low-certainty evidence). However, when compared to traditional screening, there is no evidence of a difference in dental attendance (very low-certainty evidence). For children requiring treatment, personalised or specific referral letters may improve dental attendance when compared to ...

Masks versus prongs as interfaces for nasal continuous positive airway pressure in preterm infants
CONCLUSIONS: The available trial data provide low-certainty evidence that use of masks compared with prongs as the nasal CPAP interface may reduce treatment failure and nasal injury, and may have little or no effect on mortality or the risk of pneumothorax in newborn preterm infants with or at risk of respiratory distress. The effect on bronchopulmonary dysplasia is very uncertain. Large, high-quality trials would be needed to provide evidence of sufficient validity and applicability to inform policy and practice.PMID:36374241 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD015129

Yoga for chronic non-specific low back pain
CONCLUSIONS: There is low- to moderate-certainty evidence that yoga compared to no exercise results in small and clinically unimportant improvements in back-related function and pain. There is probably little or no difference between yoga and other back-related exercise for back-related function at three months, although it remains uncertain whether there is any difference between yoga and other exercise for pain and quality of life. Yoga is associated with more adverse events than no exercise, but may have the same risk of adverse events as other exercise. In light of these results, decisions to use yoga instead of no exe...
