Dynamic relationship between green finance, environmental taxes, and CO < sub > 2 < /sub > emissions in transition toward circular economy: what causes what?
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Aug 31. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-28912-z. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe study was aimed at investigating the dynamic relationship between environmental taxes, green financing, and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in Brazil, China, India, and South Africa from 1994 to 2019. To thoroughly examine the proposed relationship, a family of robust econometric methods is used to get reliable and accurate results. Our evidence indicates that green finance and CO2 emissions are negatively connected with each other. Similarly, positive relationship is found between environmental taxes and CO2 emission...

Democracy, economics, or health-Time to look to the east for leadership
J Family Med Prim Care. 2023 Jun;12(6):1027-1029. doi: 10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_839_23. Epub 2023 Jun 30.ABSTRACTWhile the capabilities of the low and middle-income countries (LMIC) have always been defined as "doubtful" to deal with public health crises of Covid pandemic magnitude, a flip-flop and incoherent response by the high-income countries (HIC) was unexpected. In the unprecedented moment of the pandemic, it is that we are beginning to find among ourselves, across the globe a search for stronger, resilient, scalable, and economy-efficient foundations in health systems that are capable of delivering healthcare to all. The...

One Man ’ s Quest to Heal the Oceans —And Maybe Save the World
Enric Sala—marine ecologist, conservationist, and ocean advocate—is standing under a life-size replica of a Northern Atlantic Right Whale at the natural history museum in Washington, D.C., and the air outside is smudged with wildfire smoke drifting down from Canada. It’s not surprising that Sala wants to talk about the smoke, or about whales. Their poop, however, is an unexpected twist. According to Sala, whale excrement, or, more precisely, the lack of it, has a role to play in the choking miasma that has forced my interview with one of the world’s foremost ocean explorers indoors instead of out on...

Design and validation of high-density SNP array of goats and population stratification of Indian goat breeds
Gene. 2023 Aug 4:147691. doi: 10.1016/j.gene.2023.147691. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGoats are the supporting pillars of rural economy contributing significantly to meat and milk production in India. It is a species targeted for fulfilling the interdependent goals of poverty reduction and creation of employment for supporting the rural income. The increased demand for goat products necessitates their genetic characterization and improvement to augment the production of native breeds. Bi-allelic, genome wide, densely placed single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers are most suitable for this purpose. This paper descri...

How e-commerce support economic growth amid COVID-19: evidence from Chinese economy
This study aims to investigate how e-commerce supported economic expansion during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly emphasizing the Chinese economy. Because of the rapid changes in consumer perceptions brought on by the COVID-19 epidemic, this study gives a thorough methodology for assessing the success of e-commerce businesses. The application's twenty-five secondary standards include two sustainability elements, sustainable development, and carbon dioxide emissions. Three Indian e-commerce companies serve as a case study to illustrate the assessment methodology. To capture the uncertainty in the judicial process, the f...

Anaerobic digestion as a sustainable technology for efficiently utilizing biomass in the context of carbon neutrality and circular economy
Environ Res. 2023 May 30:116286. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2023.116286. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCarbon emissions and associated global warming have become a threat to the world, the major contributor being the extensive use of fossil fuels and uncontrolled generation of solid wastes. Energy generation from renewable energy sources is considered an alternative to achieving carbon neutrality. Anaerobic digestion (AD) is a sustainable technology that has been endorsed as a low-carbon technology complimenting both waste management and renewable energy sectors. The AD technology recovers the volatile matter from waste biomass...

Valorization potential of pine needle waste biomass: recent trends and future perspectives
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 May 11. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-27440-0. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPines play a significant role in forest biodiversity globally and generate huge forest litter. Dry pine needles due to low ignition temperature and high frictional force with the ground catch fire quickly. Annual forest fires in the northern states of India greatly impact the Indian economy besides causing huge loss to biodiversity, livelihood, and environment. Pine needles are also considered unfit for fodder consumption due to presence of tannins. Although the presence of softwood lignin in pine needles makes it diffic...

Prediction of spontaneous combustion susceptibility of coal seams based on coal intrinsic properties using various machine learning tools
In this study, multiple linear regression (MLR) and five different machine learning (ML) techniques, such as Support Vector Regression (SVR), Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Random Forest (RF), Gradient Boosting (GB) and Extreme Gradient Boost (XGB) algorithms, were used to predict the spontaneous combustion susceptibility (WOP) of coal seams based on the coal intrinsic properties. The results derived from the models were compared with the experimental data. The results indicated excellent prediction accuracy and ease of interpretation of tree-based ensemble algorithms, like Random Forest, Gradient Boosting and Extreme Gr...

Marketing strategies for waste recycling: a bibliometric analysis towards the circular economy
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Apr 28. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-27040-y. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCompanies have adopted green marketing and marketing strategies to position themselves in consumer preferences and combat the problem of accelerated consumption of resources that has compromised the planet's regenerative capacity, where the circular economy emerges as a solution to move towards responsible production and consumption patterns. From waste recycling marketing strategies, a descriptive analysis of 120 documents from the SCOPUS database was carried out using bibliometric techniques to know the existing state ...

Does energy conversion contribute to economic development in emerging and growth leading economies (EAGLE's): evidence from panel ARDL approach
This study examines the impact of renewable energy on economic development in emerging and growth-leading economies (EAGLE's) from 1980 to 2019. The econometric procedure used in this study is pooled mean group regression/Panel ARDL approach. The study's results support the growth-conservation theory and demonstrate that wealth creation is not dependent entirely on fossil fuels and that other energy sources may also be used. There is a positive association between renewable energy production and consumption and economic development in EAGLE countries. For the overall sample selected, the association between the long run an...

The past, present, and future of health economics in India
J Family Med Prim Care. 2022 Dec;11(12):7513-7516. doi: 10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_2266_21. Epub 2023 Jan 17.ABSTRACTHealth economics has long been neglected as a subset of the larger discipline of Economics and Finance. However, this could not be further from the truth. There is a large body of researchers and professionals alike that are of the consensus that extensive studying and working upon Healthcare Economics can help us avert the situation that arose in the wake of the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Applying the core principles of Health Economics to a situation like that would help avert bad outcomes. In this article, the au...
