Deciphering the evolution of the temporal and geographic distribution of French Mycobacterium bovis genotypes using a high throughput SNP-targeted amplicon sequencing method
This study allowed classifying 618 different genotypic profiles (combination of a spoligotype and 8 loci-MIRU-VNTR profiles) into the nine previously identified clusters. A global analysis of the entire collection of the National Reference Laboratory has made it possible to represent the evolution of clonal complexes and clusters in time and space for better assessing epidemiological changes of bovine tuberculosis in France.PMID:37657678 | DOI:10.1016/j.meegid.2023.105497

Active tuberculosis screening among the displaced population fleeing Ukraine, France, February to October 2022
Euro Surveill. 2023 Mar;28(12):2300155. doi: 10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2023.28.12.2300155.ABSTRACTPersons fleeing Ukraine since February 2022 have potentially higher risk of tuberculosis (TB) vs all European Union countries. Interest of active TB screening among this population is debated and not widely adopted. In this screening intervention by a network of TB centres in France, the number needed to screen (NNS) was 862 to find one case. This experience shows that this strategy may be relevant for TB control in situations of massive displacement, similar to that following the Russian invasion.PMID:36951786 | PMC:PMC10037662 | ...

Hospitalizations for infections in primary Sj ögren's syndrome patients: a nationwide incidence study
CONCLUSIONS: pSS patients are at higher risk of hospitalization for infections. The increased risk of hospitalization for mycobacterial infections illustrates the potential bilateral relationship between the two conditions. Vaccination against respiratory pathogens and herpes zoster virus may help prevent some hospitalizations in pSS patients.KEY MESSAGESPrimary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) increases hospitalization risk for community infections: bronchopulmonary, skin, dental, ear-nose-throat, intestinal infections and pyelonephritis.Hospitalizations for zoster and mycobacterial infections are also increased in this populati...

Infectious encephalitis in elderly patients: a prospective multicentre observational study in France 2016-2019
CONCLUSION: Elderly patients represent > 50% of adults with encephalitis in France, with higher proportion of L. monocytogenes and VZV encephalitis, increased risk of death, and sequels. The empirical treatment currently recommended, aciclovir and amoxicillin, is appropriate for this age group.PMID:36152225 | DOI:10.1007/s15010-022-01927-3

Burden, clinical features and outcomes of post-tuberculosis lung disease in sub-Saharan Africa: a protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis
Introduction Tuberculosis (TB) is significantly associated with multiple postinfectious, non-communicable diseases after microbiological cure. For example, those with a history of TB disease have a higher risk of developing chronic lung diseases at a younger age. However, the extent and nature of post-TB complications are not well described. Here, we present a protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis, which aims to synthesise literature on the burden of post-TB lung disease (PTLD) in sub-Saharan Africa, describe phenotypes, long-term outcomes and the health-related quality of life of people with PTLD. Methods an...
