Characterizing Beliefs about Stroke and Walking for Exercise among Seniors from Four Racial/Ethnic Minority Communities
We described and compared seniors ’ stroke-related health beliefs among four racial/ethnic communities to inform a culturally-tailored stroke prevention walking intervention. Specific attention was paid to how seniors combined pathophysiology-based biomedical beliefs with non-biomedical beliefs. Prevalence and risk factors of stroke in a rural area of northern China: a 10-year comparative study
CONCLUSION: The current study suggests that the prevalence of stroke increased nearly by twofold in a population aged 65 years or older within the past 10 years. Hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and being male were the primary risk factors. Effects of A Benefit-Finding Intervention in Stroke Caregivers in Communities.
CONCLUSIONS: The intervention appears to be feasible for stroke patients and caregivers. The intervention is capable of improving the quality of life of caregivers and survivors, increasing the benefit finding of caregivers and reducing the burden of caregivers. Resilience and its correlates among first ischemic stroke survivors at acute stage of hospitalization from a tertiary hospital in China :a cross-sectional study.
CONCLUSION: General self-efficacy and coping style may be implied orientation in enhancing resilience of elderly patients with first ischemic stroke at acute hospitalization. Moreover, economic status may predict level of resilience. Highlights Resilience was measured in 147 older first-episode ischemic stroke survivors at acute hospitalization. General-efficacy was the strongest predictor of resilience. Resilience was significantly influenced by resignation. Coping strategy should be emphasized early after stroke. Effects of modified 8 ‐week reminiscence therapy on the older spouse caregivers of stroke survivors in Chinese communities: A randomized controlled trial
ConclusionsThe use of a modified 8‐week reminiscence therapy in this study sample improved the life satisfaction of stroke survivors and their spouse caregivers, improved the positive experience of caregivers, and decreased the burden of caregivers.
