Prevalence, antibiotic susceptibility and genomic analysis of Salmonella from retail meats in Shaanxi, China
This study aimed to assess the prevalence, antibiotic susceptibility, and genomic features of Salmonella isolates recovered from 600 retail meat samples (300 pork, 150 chicken and 150 beef) from August 2018 to October 2019 in Shaanxi, China. Overall, 40 (6.67 %) of 600 samples were positive to Salmonella, with the highest prevalence in chicken (21.33 %, 32/150), followed in pork (2.67 %, 8/300), while no Salmonella was detected in beef. A total of 10 serotypes and 11 sequence types (STs) were detected in 40 Salmonella isolates, with the most common being ST198 S. Kentucky (n = 15), ST13 S. Agona (n = 6), and ST17 S. Indian...

Levofloxacin-induced acute rhabdomyolysis: A case report
We report a case of acute rhabdomyolysis associated with levofloxacin use. A 58-year-old Chinese woman developed myalgia and difficulty walking ~ 4 days after taking levofloxacin for a respiratory infection. Blood biochemistry revealed elevated peripheral creatine kinase and liver enzyme levels, but the patient did not develop an acute kidney injury. Her symptoms resolved after discontinuation of levofloxacin. This case report highlights the need for monitoring of blood biochemistry in patients taking levofloxacin to enable early diagnosis and treatment of potentially life-threatening myositis.PMID:37114513 | DOI:10.5414/CP204377

Enzyme-linked immunospot assay and metagenomic sequencing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, coagulopathy symptoms, and pancytopenia testing for characterization of pulmonary tuberculosis: case report and literature review
In this report presented, a 70-year-old female was admitted to the hospital with poor appetite, dark urine, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and bilateral lower limb edema; chest CT suggested diffuse infectious lesions in both lungs, coagulation dysfunction, and complete pancytopenia, which was initially considered to be caused by severe infection. However, the patient's symptoms did not improve by potent empiric antibiotics treatment, and a repeat chest CT showed that the lung lesions deteriorated more than before, and coagulation disorders and pancytopenia did not improve. Finally, the TB patient tested positive for enzyme-lin...

Molecular Characterization of Clarithromycin Resistance in Helicobacter pylori Strains
CONCLUSION: In conclusion, the most common mutations associated with clarithromycin resistance in H. pylori have been identified as A2143G, A2142G, and A2142C which are the most frequently detected mutations in European countries. Same mutations and other mutations like T2182C have also been detected frequently in north-eastern countries and China. Since Turkey is a transition zone between Europe and Asia, Turkey might have strains that carry mutations found in both continents.PMID:36789980 | DOI:10.5152/tjg.2023.21954

Seasonal distribution and dynamic evolution of antibiotics and evaluation of their resistance selection potential and ecotoxicological risk at a wastewater treatment plant in Jinan, China
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Jan 24. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-25202-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe seasonal distribution and dynamic evolution of antibiotics in wastewater from main treatment areas and in sludge and their resistance selection potential and ecotoxicological risk were studied at a municipal wastewater treatment plant in Jinan, East China. Ten antibiotics were selected, and all were detected in wastewater and sludge samples, with fluoroquinolones showing the highest detection concentrations and frequencies. Seasonal fluctuations in the antibiotic concentrations in the influent, effluent, and sludge w...
