Stroke in Young Military Men With Heterozygous for MTHFR Gene Mutation or Factor V Leiden Gene Mutation Associated With Patent Foramen Ovale: Report of Two Cases and Therapeutic Strategy
We report two cases of Brazilian patients (a 22-year-old male and a 48-year-old male) with ischemic stroke, whose arterial vascular study and echocardiographic investigation did not reveal any steno-occlusive arterial disease or typical cardioembolic finding, such as atrial fibrillation or myocardial dysfunction. A transcranial Doppler ultrasound and a transesophageal echocardiogram showed a patent foramen ovale (PFO), and the laboratory screening for coagulation abnormalities showed heterozygosity for MTHFR C677T and A1298C in one of the patients and heterozygosity for factor V Leiden gene mutations in the other patient. ...

Prevalence of overweight and obesity and associated factors among women of childbearing age in Brazil.
CONCLUSION: The results showed an association between excess weight and sociodemographic factors, both determinants of general and reproductive health history. Implementation of effective public health policies is necessary to prevent unfavorable outcomes related to the health of women of childbearing age with excess weight. Frailty in community-dwelling older people: comparing screening instruments
CONCLUSIONS: Although the analyses show moderate agreement and strong positive correlation between the instruments, the indicated prevalence of frailty is discrepant. Differences in the prevalence of prediabetes, undiagnosed diabetes and diagnosed diabetes and associated factors in cohorts of Brazilian and English older adults.
CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of diabetes was higher in the Brazilian sample. Adults at high-risk of severe coronavirus disease-2019 (Covid-19) in Brazil
CONCLUSIONS Proportion and total number of adults at risk of severe Covid-19 are high in Brazil, with wide variation across states and adult subgroups. T hese findings should be considered while designing and implementing prevention measures in Brazil. We argue that these results support broad social isolation measures, particularly when testing capacity for SARS-CoV-2 is limited.

Factors associated with orthostatic hypotension in adults: the ELSA-Brasil study.
This study aimed to investigate factors associated with orthostatic hypotension in 14,833 individuals 35-74 years of age. This was a cross-sectional study of baseline data (2008-2010) from the Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA-Brasil). Postural testing was performed after 20 minutes resting in supine position and active adoption of orthostatic posture. Hospitalizations among older adults: results from ELSI-Brazil
CONCLUSIONS Four of the major diseases associated with hospitalizations (stroke, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and hypertension) are part of the Brazilian list of primary care-sensitive hospitalizations. CONCLUSIONS Although the information source has its shortcomings, the ability for discrimination of the risk adjustment model was reasonable. The variability in the risk-adjusted hospital mortality was great and comparatively higher in for-profit private hospitals.
