The prevalence of drug driving and being caught for a drug driving offense among community-recruited people who use methamphetamine in metropolitan and rural Victoria, Australia
CONCLUSIONS: The majority of people within this cohort of people who used methamphetamine reported drug driving. An enhanced focus on public health campaigns and strategies to prevent drug driving is needed.PMID:36662649 | DOI:10.1080/15389588.2022.2150048

Variables associated with methamphetamine use within the past year and sex differences among patients with methamphetamine use disorder: A cross-sectional study in Japan
CONCLUSION AND SCIENTIFIC SIGNIFICANCE: In women, in particular, the surrounding relationships related to methamphetamine might be considered treatment targets. Young and working patients might need more accessible outpatient clinics and treatment programs. Comorbid substance abuse should be assessed and treated.PMID:35102652 | DOI:10.1111/ajad.13262

Substance Use During Pregnancy: A Comparative Review of Major Guidelines
Conclusions The diversity of guidelines' recommendations concerning substance use reflects the different ways of the management of pregnant women during routine antenatal care due to absence of strong evidence. More research in the areas of dispute may allow the adoption of an international consensus, in order to early detect and appropriately manage pregnant women with harmful addictions. Target Audience Obstetricians and gynecologists, family physicians. Learning Objectives After participating in this activity, the learner should be better able to assess all the available screening methods for substance...

Correlates of anxiety and depression in a community cohort of people who smoke methamphetamine
CONCLUSION: The high rates of anxiety and/or depression found in the VMAX cohort were associated with demographic, socio-economic, substance use and other health and social factors. The prevalence of moderate to severe anxiety is a novel finding that warrants further study. Further work is needed to determine how anxiety and depression change over time among people who smoke methamphetamine, to help identify key intervention points.PMID:34558302 | DOI:10.1177/00048674211048152

Methamphetamine and alcohol detection in vehicle-driver fatalities in South Australia: A 10-year survey (2008-2018)
This study has demonstrated that while roadside breath testing, legislative changes, and increased monitoring have resulted in reduced levels of drunk driving, similar safety countermeasures have had negligible effects on MA use in drivers. Continued monitoring of MA use by drivers will, therefore, be necessary to assess the possible effects, or not, of new countermeasures.PMID:34435666 | DOI:10.1111/1556-4029.14876

Assessment on chronic and transgenerational toxicity of methamphetamine to Caenorhabditis elegans and associated aquatic risk through toxicity indicator sensitivity distribution (TISD) analysis
Environ Pollut. 2021 Jul 2;288:117696. doi: 10.1016/j.envpol.2021.117696. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEvidence about the adverse effects of methamphetamine (METH) on invertebrates is scarce. Hence, C. elegans, a representative invertebrate model, was exposed to METH at environmental levels to estimate chronic and transgenerational toxicity. The results of chronic exposure were integrated into an underlying toxicity framework of METH in invertebrates (e.g., benthos) at environmentally relevant concentrations. The induction of cellular oxidative damage-induced apoptosis and fluctuation of ecologically important traits (i.e...
