Endovascular Treatment of Cerebrovascular Lesions Using Nickel- or Nitinol-Containing Devices in Patients with Nickel Allergies INTERVENTIONAL
SUMMARY: Nickel is used in many cerebral endovascular treatment devices. However, nickel hypersensitivity is the most common metal allergy, and the relative risk of treatment in these patients is unknown. This retrospective analysis identified patients with nickel or metal allergies who underwent cerebral endovascular treatment with nickel-containing devices. Seven patients with nickel and/or other metal allergies underwent treatment with 9 nickel-containing devices. None experienced periprocedural complications. No patient received treatment with corticosteroids or antihistamines. At a mean clinical follow-up for all pati...

Allergy-induced urticaria of the colon
This article reports 2 adult patients who had developed an acute allergic reaction to food ingredients or medications, respectively. Both patients presented with concurrent urticaria of the skin and colon. The latter finding appeared as numerous raised plaques of the colonic mucosa on radiographic and computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen. The urticarial lesions affecting the skin and large bowel resembled each other and resolved after treatment with antihistamines. Pertinent clinical data and previously published cases of this unusual entity are briefly reviewed.

MR Imaging of Mediastinal Masses
Abstract: The mediastinum contains vital vascular and nonvascular structures and organs, and a wide variety of abnormalities may arise from this region of the thorax. Although mediastinal masses may be initially detected on chest radiography, cross-sectional imaging plays an important role in the identification and evaluation of mediastinal lesions, enabling the formulation of focused differential diagnoses and ultimately guiding management. Computed tomography (CT) is considered the imaging modality of choice for evaluating most mediastinal masses; however, the role of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging continues to expand, ...

Use of “Time-Out” checklist in interventional radiology procedures as a tool to enhance patient safety
Conclusions The use of a checklist in IR, named “Time-Out” in our experience was feasible and effective allowing elimination of adverse events in the first year of use and promoting significant involvement and awareness of patient safety among the health-care team. The level of implementation, completeness and acceptability of the SC within the team increased after adequate training had been provided.
