Endonasal Exposure of Lateral Recess of the Sphenoid Sinus: Significance of Pterygoid Process Pneumatization

Risk Factors for Rhinosinusitis After Endoscopic Transsphenoidal Adenomectomy.
CONCLUSION: This is the first study to investigate preoperative sinonasal disease as a risk factor for PRS after eTSA. The risk factors considered did not demonstrate definitive risk for PRS, although a history of prior sinonasal surgery should be investigated further. A Comparison of Sphenoid Sinus Osteoneogenesis in Aspirin-Exacerbated Respiratory Disease.
CONCLUSION: Patients with AERD have significantly increased thickness of the sphenoid bone compared to control groups with the most pronounced difference in the intersinus septum. Radiographic Nuances in Allergic Fungal Rhinosinusitis.
CONCLUSION: In this cohort, pediatric AFRS patients had more unilateral disease and anterior ethmoid skull base erosion. Concha bullosa prevalence was significantly higher in AFRS as compared to those with CRSwNP or CRSsNP, despite prior ESS. Eccentric, mature osseous cap: A distinct imaging feature of sinonasal osteoblastoma.
CONCLUSION: Sinonasal osteoblastoma is an extremely rare entity with undefined imaging characteristics to guide preoperative decision-making. Here we reported, to our knowledge, the first description of a characteristic imaging sign of an eccentric, mature osseous cap, which corresponded histologically to a single peripheral layer rim of osteoblasts, a unique trait of osteoblastoma. Immunoglobulin G4 sinusitis in association with aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease.
CONCLUSION: Shared type II inflammation may be responsible for the coexistence of IgG4-RD and AERD as observed in our patient. Health care workers must be cognizant of the simultaneous presentation of both IgG4-RD and AERD. PMID: 28859705 [PubMed - in process]

Bone involvement: Histopathological evidence for endoscopic management of sinonasal inverted papilloma
ConclusionHistopathological evidence of bone involvement indicates the importance of removal of the underlying bone at the time of endoscopic tumor resection. We hypothesized that bone involvement including bone invasion and osteogenesis may be induced by the tumor, and any microscopic lesion in the bony crevices probably indicates recurrence of SIP. Short-term morbidity after the endoscopic modified Lothrop (Draf-III) procedure compared with Draf-IIa.
CONCLUSION: Draf-III is associated with more postoperative clinic visits, debridements, and antibiotic therapy days. The patients who underwent Draf-III demonstrated worsening of extranasal symptoms at the first postoperative visit and less improvement in the ear/facial score at the second and third visits.
