The role of potassium in muscle membrane dysfunction in end-stage renal disease
CONCLUSIONS: In ESRD patients, the muscle membrane is depolarized, mainly due to hyperkalemia.SIGNIFICANCE: Since normal muscle fatigue has been attributed to potassium-induced depolarization, it seems likely that this mechanism is also a major cause of the exaggerated muscle fatigue and weakness in ESRD patients.PMID:34740043 | DOI:10.1016/j.clinph.2021.09.012

Statin-Associated Necrotizing Myopathy Leading to Acute Kidney Injury: A Case Report
We present a case of a female patient who was on chronic rosuvastatin therapy and developed necrotizing myopathy. The disease progressed to acute kidney and liver injury. We discontinued the drug, started supportive measures, and initiated renal replacement therapy with a high cutoff dialysis membrane once. Her recovery was prompt, with a normal control electromyography 2 weeks after discharge.Case Rep Nephrol Dial 2021;11:129 –135

P049  Skeletal muscle involvement in COVID-19 infection: a case report and systematic review
Conclusion Severe skeletal manifestations such rhabdomyolysis occur in covid-19. More research is needed to discover if this is through direct viral invasion of the tissues, or indirectly via systemic cytokine release, hyperlactataemia and hypo-oxygenation. CK should be routinely checked in those critically unwell or with severe myalgia or weakness to identify treatable rhabdomyolysis early. Chronic autoimmune conditions such as the idiopathic inflammatory myopathies may have viral environmental triggers, and one case tested positive for a myositis specific antibody. Whether patients with acute covid- 19 related myositis...
