Itraconazole Improved Bronchial Wall Thickness in Severe Persistent Asthma: A Double-blind Placebo-controlled Randomized Clinical Trial
Iran J Allergy Asthma Immunol. 2023 Feb 20;22(1):1-11. doi: 10.18502/ijaai.v22i1.12000.ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of 8 months of treatment with itraconazole on airway wall thickness in patients with severe persistent asthma. It was a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial (IRCT20091111002695N9). Seventy-five subjects with severe persistent asthma received itraconazole (100 mg), prednisolone (5 mg), or placebo twice a day for eight months in three treatment groups (n=25 in each group). The primary objective was to improve the right upper lobe apical segmental bronchus (...

Multistrain Probiotics Supplement Alleviates Asthma Symptoms via Increasing Treg Cells Population: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial
Conclusion: Our findings demonstrate that 8-week treatment with probiotic supplementation can control T-helper 2-predominant and Th17 pro-inflammatory responses and improve forced vital and forced expiratory volume in asthmatic patients. It seems probiotics can be used besides common treatments for patients with asthma.Int Arch Allergy Immunol

Forced Oscillation Technique (FOT) and spirometry in school aged children with stable asthma
Conclusion: Despite the strong correlation noted between the Rrs5, FEV1, and FEV1/FVC in children with well-defined asthma, there were no similar relationships in children where asthma diagnosis was less certain. This suggests that the two techniques may reflect different aspects of the pathophysiological changes in childhood asthma.

Overall response to anti-IL5/anti-IL5R{alpha} treatment in severe asthma does not depend on initial bronchodilator responsiveness
Conclusions: Pulmonary function improved in both groups during anti-IL5/anti-IL5Rα treatment, but response patterns differed. However, both groups showed similar overall responses concerning reduction of OCS therapy, exacerbations and improvement of symptom control.
