Elevated serum level of the vascular endothelial growth factor predicts radiographic spinal progression in patients with axial spondyloarthritis
Conclusions An elevated serum level of VEGF (>600 pg/mL) is highly specific as a predictor of radiographic spinal progression in patients with axSpA, especially in patients who are at high risk for further progression due to the presence of syndesmophytes.

Radiographic benefit and maintenance of clinical benefit with intravenous golimumab therapy in patients with active rheumatoid arthritis despite methotrexate therapy: results up to 1 year of the phase 3, randomised, multicentre, double blind, placebo controlled GO-FURTHER trial
Conclusions In patients with active RA despite MTX, intravenous golimumab+MTX yielded significant inhibition of structural damage at wk24 and wk52, and sustained clinical improvement in signs and symptoms with no new safety signals up to 1 year. ClinicalTrials.gov NCT00973479, EudraCT 2008–006 064–11.

Medical reversal of chronic sinusitis in a cystic fibrosis patient with ivacaftor
ConclusionThis report documents the reversal of CF sinus disease. Based on our in vivo and in vitro results, we speculate that ivacaftor may reverse CF sinusitis by increasing ASL pH and decreasing ASL viscosity. These studies suggest that CFTR modulation may be effective in treating CF and perhaps non‐CF sinusitis.

The clinical and genetic features of COPD-asthma overlap syndrome
Individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma are an important but poorly characterised group. The genetic determinants of COPD and asthma overlap have not been studied. The aim of this study was to identify clinical features and genetic risk factors for COPD and asthma overlap. Subjects were current or former smoking non-Hispanic whites or African–Americans with COPD. Overlap subjects reported a history of physician-diagnosed asthma before the age of 40 years. We compared clinical and radiographic features between COPD and overlap subjects. We performed genome-wide association studies (GWA...

Use of “Time-Out” checklist in interventional radiology procedures as a tool to enhance patient safety
Conclusions The use of a checklist in IR, named “Time-Out” in our experience was feasible and effective allowing elimination of adverse events in the first year of use and promoting significant involvement and awareness of patient safety among the health-care team. The level of implementation, completeness and acceptability of the SC within the team increased after adequate training had been provided.

Endoscopic endonasal resection of respiratory epithelial adenomatoid hamartomas of the sinonasal tract
ConclusionREAH is a benign well‐defined pathological entity but is still unfamiliar. REAH should be kept in mind as a differential diagnosis from more aggressive lesions to avoid unnecessary surgical procedure. A complete but conservative endoscopic resection appears to be curative.

Radiographic evaluation of nasal septal deviation from computed tomography correlates poorly with physical exam findings
ConclusionCT is a poor substitute for physical examination, the gold standard, in assessment of septal deviation. Clinical decisions about pursuit of septoplasty or third‐party payors’ decisions to approve septoplasty should not be made on radiographic evidence.

Clinical and radiographic outcomes at 2 years and the effect of tocilizumab discontinuation following sustained remission in the second and third year of the ACT-RAY study
Conclusions Treat-to-target strategies could be successfully implemented with TCZ to achieve sustained remission, after which TCZ was stopped. Biologic-free remission was maintained for about 3 months, but most patients eventually flared. TCZ restart led to rapid improvement. Trial registration number NCT00810199.

Evolution of radiographic damage in ankylosing spondylitis: a 12 year prospective follow-up of the OASIS study
Conclusions Long term radiographic progression in AS is highly variable in the individual patient, more severe in HLA-B27 positive men and still occurs after decades of disease. At the group level, however, progression in AS follows an approximately linear course.

Hand osteoarthritis in relation to mortality and incidence of cardiovascular disease: data from the Framingham Heart Study
Conclusions Symptomatic hand OA, but not radiographic hand OA, was associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease events. The results suggest an effect of pain, which may be a possible marker of inflammation.

Cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between circulating leptin and knee cartilage thickness in older adults
Conclusions Serum levels of leptin are independently and consistently associated with reduced cartilage thickness cross-sectionally and longitudinally. In addition, the associations between adiposity measures and cartilage thickness are mediated by leptin, suggesting leptin may play a key role in cartilage thinning.

What Are Risk Factors for Progression To Severe Disease with Bronchiolitis?
Discussion Bronchiolitis is a clinical disease with following features: begins usually with rhinitis and cough that may progress to also having tachypnea, rales, wheezing and increased work of breathing shown by nasal flaring and/or accessory muscle use. The increased work of breathing may cause problems with feeding and hydration and also with mental status changes. It is usually seen in infants and children < 2 years of age. It is also usually seasonal (winter in upper North America) with 60-70% of cases being caused by respiratory syncytial virus but also human rhinorvirus, human metapneumovirus, influenza, adenoviru...

Oyster mushrooms (pleurotus ostreatus) caused hypersensitivity pneumonitis: Mushroom worker's lung
Mushrooms that grow all over the world are used sources of food and medical features since the time of ancient Greece and Roman. Today, request of edible mushrooms such as Pleurotus Ostreatus cultivated at the industrial level, due to its short growing period, higher compliance and productivity are increasing according to the other edible mushrooms.Commercial production is carried out in indoor and conditioned environments with labor-intensive way throughout the year. Indoor cultivation, leads to allergic symptoms such as extrinsic allergic alveolitis known as hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) in workers. HP that caused by...

Four-month metacarpal bone mineral density loss predicts radiological joint damage progression after 1 year in patients with early rheumatoid arthritis: exploratory analyses from the IMPROVED study
Conclusions In early RA patients, metacarpal BMD loss after 4 months of treatment is an independent predictor of radiological progression after 1 year. In patients without baseline erosions, early metacarpal BMD loss is the main predictor of radiological progression.

Quantitative syndesmophyte measurement in ankylosing spondylitis using CT: longitudinal validity and sensitivity to change over 2 years
Conclusions CT-based syndesmophytes measurements had very good longitudinal validity and better sensitivity to change than radiography or MRI. This method shows promise for longitudinal clinical studies of syndesmophyte development and growth.
