Measurement and analysis of the common food allergens specific IgE
Conclusion Egg white is the major allergen of egg allergy. The relevance of shrimp and crab, peanuts and soybeans is extremely high, probably because of their homology; egg white and milk is not homologous food, but their positive rate has significant correlation, indicating the existing phenomenon of common sensitization.

119 Cellular allergy tests for antibiotic drug hypersensitivity in cystic fibrosis
Hypersensitivity reactions to parenteral antibiotics (HRPA) are a major problem in the management of patients with CF. These patients require lifelong treatment with antibiotics in high cumulative doses. Allergy testing methods such as specific IgE in serum are are not available for antipseudomonal antibiotics. Skin tests seem to have limited value. This pilot study was carried out to asses the diagnostic value of in-vitro cellular allergy tests for HRPA and the underlying immune reactions.

Prevalence of over-/misdiagnosis of asthma in patients referred to an allergy clinic.
CONCLUSIONS: A sizeable percentage of subjects who reported physician-diagnosed asthma had a negative MBC. Nevertheless, a greater proportion of negative MBC patients were taking anti-asthmatic drugs compared to those with a confirmed diagnosis of asthma, illustrating that the overdiagnosis of asthma may lead to over- and mistreatment of respiratory symptoms. Pharyngeal aspiration of metal oxide nanoparticles showed potential of allergy aggravation effect to inhaled ovalbumin.
In this study, three types of nanoparticles, TiO2, ZnO and SiO2, were administered to mouse lungs by pharyngeal aspiration. Subsequently, the mice inhaled ovalbumin (OVA) a total of eight times over 3 weeks. After inhalation of OVA, the concentrations of total IgE, OVA-specific IgE and OVA-specific IgG1 in serum increased in the mice treated with ZnO. TiO2 and SiO2 nanoparticles did not affect the OVA-specific IgE and IgG1 levels. These results suggest that ZnO nanoparticles have the potential to aggravate allergic reactions. The results also suggest that Zn(2+) release from ZnO nanoparticles is involved in the aggravation...

A patient with mushroom allergy; a new etiological agent of Kounis syndrome.
We report a case of a 31-year old female; 2 hours after the ingestion of the mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus); she experienced nausea, stomachache, vomiting, dyspnea and chest pain. Electrocardiogram (ECG) showed an ST segment elevation in D1, AVL, precordial leads V1-V4. The blood analysis revealed high levels of CK-MB fraction and troponin T values. The diagnosis of Kounis syndrome was made in the catheterization laboratory via the complete resolution of angina, along with electrocardiographic changes that took place after intracoronary nitrate therapy and skin prick to prick test positivism with the mushroom. To the best ...

Asthma, allergy, and obesity: Examining the relationship among Nevada children.
CONCLUSION: . Although overweight children did show allergen sensitization, those who were overweight had lower odds of allergen sensitization and lower odds of polysensitization, as compared to normal weight asthmatic children. Elevated BMI was not a significant predictor of asthma severity. PMID: 27739908 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Indoor microbial exposure in relation to allergy and respiratory health in adults
CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that asthma and allergy may be influenced by the microbial species composition and quantity of microorganisms present in urban domestic environments.

Occupational Asthma due to Food Allergy in a Madagascan Cook
Conclusions: As restaurant cook, the patient had had to taste milk containing dishes up to 200 x per working day. Since he hadn't been exposed to cow milk before entering the job we concluded, that the food allergy and asthma had been caused by his occupation. To our knowledge this is the first case for occupational asthma by ingestive allergens in Germany.

Any correlation between the results of skin-prick test and the severity of asthma?
Conclusion: This study emphasizes the importance of evaluating the clinical relevance of positive skin prick tests considering the atopy and the intensity of SPT reaction as predictor of more severe asthma, particularly if associated to allergic rhinitis.

The Southern Sweden Adolescent Allergy-Cohort: Prevalence of allergic diseases and cross-sectional associations with individual and social factors.
CONCLUSIONS: A high number of affected children were identified. Some children being undiagnosed and some not receiving satisfactory treatment. These results suggest that additional studies to evaluate treatment procedures in order to improve healthcare for allergic children are warranted. PMID: 29621411 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Interleukin-6 is important for the development of Acinetobacter lwoffii-mediated protection against asthma
Conclusions: IL-6, a central cytokine of innate immunity responses, seems to be important for the general ability of the organism to modulate its adaptive immune system in non-allergic (Th2) direction. Furthermore, IL-6 plays a specific role in mediating the development of protective, anti-allergic mechanisms related to the preceding A. lwoffii exposure.
