Vitamin D status among Kashmiri tribal population: A cross-sectional community-based study
CONCLUSIONS: VD deficiency is highly prevalent among Kashmiri tribals, although the magnitude seems to be lower as compared to the general population. These preliminary data are likely to pave way for further studies analyzing the impact of vitamin D supplementation with analysis of functional outcomes.PMID:36629195 | DOI:10.4103/ijmr.IJMR_544_19

In search for globally disordered apo-parvalbumins: Case of parvalbumin β-1 from coho salmon.
Abstract Parvalbumin (PA) is a classical EF-hand calcium-binding protein of muscle, neuronal, and other tissues, and a major fish allergen. Although certain apo-PAs lack tertiary structure, functional implications of that feature and its structural prerequisites remain unclear. In a search for unstable PAs, we probed conformational stability of parvalbumin β-1 from coho salmon (csPA), a cold water fish species, using circular dichroism, scanning calorimetry, hydrophobic probe fluorescence, limited proteolysis, chemical crosslinking and dynamic light scattering techniques. Apo-csPA is shown to be mainly monomeric ...

Abstract 193: Supplement Usage and the Relationship Between Education and Socioeconomic Status: Is Counseling Intervention Needed? Session Title: Poster Session AM
Conclusion: There is no established data to suggest multivitamin use is directly associated with chronic illnesses such as increased cardiovascular risks, cancer and pulmonary disease. It has been established that hypovitaminosis D is associated with increased risk for hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases. Vitamin D supplementation is recommended to mitigate these risks. Those with higher education levels are more likely to take supplements possibly because of their increased health literacy. Patients with lower education levels may benefit from counseling of vitamin supplementation usage, MVI and especially in V...

Diet therapy along with Nutrition Education can Improve Renal Function in People with Stages 3-4 chronic kidney disease who do not have diabetes. (A randomized controlled trial)
Br J Nutr. 2022 Jul 7:1-36. doi: 10.1017/S0007114522002094. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe current trial investigates the effect of renal diet therapy and nutritional education on the estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR), blood pressure, and depression among patients with CKD. A total of 120 CKD patients (stages 3-4) (15<eGFR<60) were randomized into an intensive nutrition intervention group (individualized renal diet therapy plus nutrition counseling: 0.75 g protein/kg/day and 30-35 kcal/kg/day with sodium restriction) and a control group (routine and standard care) for 24 weeks. The primary outcome was th...
