Colon Cancer Risk Following Intestinal < em > Clostridioides difficile < /em > Infection: A Longitudinal Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: This is the first epidemiological study associating Cdiff with an increased risk for colon cancer. Future studies should further evaluate this relationship.PMID:37434772 | PMC:PMC10332880 | DOI:10.14740/jocmr4919

Measuring and Improving Quality of Colonoscopy for Colorectal Cancer Screening
Tech Innov Gastrointest Endosc. 2022;24(3):269-283. doi: 10.1016/j.tige.2021.11.002. Epub 2021 Nov 14.ABSTRACTColorectal cancer (CRC) is largely preventable, yet it remains a major public health issue as it is the third most common and deadly malignancy in the United States. While there are many ways to screen for CRC, colonoscopy remains the gold standard as it is the only test that is both cancer-detecting and cancer-preventing through removal of precancerous polyps. Through identifying and removing neoplastic lesions, colonoscopy reduces CRC incidence by 31%-91% and CRC mortality by 65%-88%. However, colonoscopy is not ...

Colonoscopy Following an Abnormal Fecal Test Result from an Annual Colorectal Cancer Screening Program in a Federally Qualified Health Center
CONCLUSIONS: Multi-level strategies are needed to provide optimal care across the cancer continuum for FQHC patients. In order to reduce the risk of CRC and realize the return on fecal testing investment, concerted system-level efforts are urgently needed to improve rates of follow-up colonoscopy among FQHC patients and redress racial and ethnic disparities in CRC screening outcomes.PMID:36448466 | DOI:10.1177/21501319221138423

Costs of colorectal cancer screening with colonoscopy, including post-endoscopy events, among adults with Medicaid Insurance
CONCLUSIONS: This large, claims-based cohort study reports average (SD) out of pocket costs for Medicaid beneficiaries at $6 ($132), which could be one factor contributing to the accessibility of CRC screening by colonoscopy. The incidence of events potentially associated with colonoscopy (i.e. within 30 days after the screening) was 3-4%, and the event-related costs were considerable.PMID:35243953 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2022.2049163
