Characterizing the literature on validity and assessment in medical education: a  bibliometric study
DiscussionLiterature reporting on validation of assessments in medical education is heterogeneous. Literature is produced by a  broad array of authors and collaborative networks, reported to a broad audience, and is primarily generated in North American and European contexts. Our findings speak to the heterogeneity of the medical education literature on assessment validation, and suggest that this heterogeneity may stem, at least in part, from differences in constructs measured, assessment purposes, or conceptualizations of validity.

A case study on breastfeeding education in Lebanon's public medical school: exploring the potential role of social networks in medical education.
CONCLUSIONS: Our work using breastfeeding as an exemplary case suggests there is a role for better attending to the beliefs of medical students as well as to the social side of medical education. Future studies can use social network theory to help identify and address influences on medical education outcomes. PMID: 30300105 [PubMed - in process]

Post-residency medical education fellowships: a scoping review
Med Educ Online. 2021 Dec;26(1):1920084. doi: 10.1080/10872981.2021.1920084.ABSTRACTThe authors conducted a scoping review to investigate the structure, content, and potential impact of post-residency medical education fellowships. The authors searched eight databases to identify English-language articles describing longitudinal, post-residency medical fellowships that both focused on medical education and described the structure and content of the curriculum. The authors summarized the findings of each article and, for those articles that included a program evaluation, assessed the potential impact of the program via the ...

Applying North American medical education accreditation standards internationally in the United Arab Emirates
CONCLUSIONS: Our analysis demonstrates that the LCME accreditation standards are model-specific and can be effectively applied internationally in programs that follow the North American model of medical education. Countries in which no specialized medical education accrediting body exists can apply the LCME standards and achieve international benchmarks of quality in medical education through rigorous self-assessment and continuous quality improvement.PMID:35341472 | DOI:10.1080/10872981.2022.2057790

A critical review of simulation‐based mastery learning with translational outcomes
ConclusionsSimulation‐based mastery learning in medical education can produce downstream results. Such results derive from integrated education and health services research programmes that are thematic, sustained and cumulative. The new discipline of implementation science holds promise to explain why medical education innovations are adopted slowly and how to accelerate innovation dissemination.

A systematic review of factors influencing student ratings in undergraduate medical education course evaluations
Conclusions: Due to the heterogeneity and methodological limitations of included studies, results must be interpreted with caution. Medical educators need to be aware of various influences on student ratings when developing data collection instruments and interpreting evaluation results. More research into the reliability and validity of overall course ratings as typically used in the evaluation of undergraduate medical education is warranted.

Turkish students' perceptions of professionalism at the beginning and at the end of medical education: a cross-sectional qualitative study.
Conclusions: The formal and hidden programs determine the quality and efficacy of the professional education together. Attempts to restructure medical education must recognize the reciprocal dynamics between these two components and, thus, should carefully work out the practical aspect of the educational processes. PMID: 25795382 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Integrating Emerging Infections Education into Medical Education: An Innovative Approach.
CONCLUSIONS: Most participants felt that outbreak preparedness was not adequately addressed in their curricula and almost all wanted more instruction. In addition, the didactic course and workshop improved self-reported student knowledge of the basic principles of contagious disease outbreak detection and management. Based on the results of our study, we propose integration of a three-hour simulation-based workshop with other instructional endeavors in emerging infections and biopreparedness into medical education curricula. We recommend the offering of a more comprehensive course for those pursuing emergency medicine and ...
