Entrustable professional activities in nursing education: a scoping review protocol
Introduction Entrustable professional activities were introduced in medical education more than 15 years ago. While some evidence exists in medical education, the role of EPAs in nursing education is not yet fully understood. Therefore, the overall aim of this scoping review is to descr...

With workers experiencing “the worst cost of living crisis in 30 years”, pay was at the heart of their debates. Since 2009, pay for higher education (HE) staff has lost around 28% of its value, as a result of below inflation rises year on year. SHM Converge promises a lively return to live
In 1998, about 200 hospitalists and hospital medicine-related professionals came together in San Diego at the first annual conference of the National Association of Inpatient Physicians (NAIP). The specialty of hospital medicine was still new at the time, and the main point of the conference—beyond medical societies adopting the habit of hosting an annual meeting in the first place—was to “figure out the direction” of the society and specialty, said Michelle Kann, CMP, DES, and associate chief of operations at SHM. SHM Converge 2022 will be her 13th annual meeting. The evolution Kann A lot has changed in 24 years...

Culture and understanding the role of feedback for health professions students: realist synthesis protocol
Introduction Clinical education has moved to a ‘competency-based’ model with an emphasis on workplace-based learning and assessment which, in turn, depends on feedback to be effective. Further, the understanding of feedback has changed from information about a performance directed to the learner performing the task, to a dialogue, which enables the learner to act and develop. In health professional education, feedback is a complex interaction between trainee, supervisor and the healthcare system. Most published research on feedback in health professional education originates in Europe and North America. Our int...

Is The Shocking News of the Sugar Industry's Influence Over Harvard Researchers Really Shocking?
Hey, Sugar, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Today, the Journal of the American Medical Association dropped an alleged bombshell when it disclosed that the sugar industry lobby influenced research on coronary heart disease by effectively bribing Harvard researchers to promote the theory that dietary fat, and not sugar, causes heart disease. The story is trending on Facebook at this very moment, and the JAMA Facebook post states that "Policymaking committees should consider giving less weight to food industry-funded studies, and include mechanistic and animal studies as well as studies appraising the effec...
