COVID-19 Vaccine Administration in Patients with Reported Reactions to Polyethylene Glycol- and Polysorbate-Containing Therapeutics
Background: Polyethylene glycol (PEG) and polysorbate reactions were initially implicated as a likely risk factor for reacting to COVID-19 vaccines and remain a source of vaccine hesitancy despite increasing evidence that they do not pose an increased risk for COVID-19 vaccine reactions. Objective: To investigate COVID-19 vaccine safety outcomes in patients with reported reactions to PEG and polysorbate containing medications/vaccines.Methods: COVID-19 vaccine safety was reviewed in patients identified with PEG/polysorbate reactions documented in their electronic medical records at a tertiary academic medical center (cohort...

Psychometric properties of disease-specific health-related quality of life (HRQoL) instruments for food allergy and food intolerance: protocol for a COSMIN-based systematic review
This report describes a protocol for a systematic review of the psychometric properties of these instruments. The aims of this systematic review are to: (1) formulate recommendations for the usage of existing validated disease-specific HRQoL instruments for patients with food allergies and/or food intolerances and their caregivers; and (2) identify knowledge gaps to inform future research relating to these instruments. Methods and analysis This protocol adheres to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Protocol (PRISMA-P) 2015 checklist. The future review will follow the Consensus-based Sta...

Endoscopic Sinus Surgery in Older Patients With Significant Medical Comorbidities
CONCLUSION: Greater medical comorbidity is not associated with worse SNOT-22 outcomes postoperatively, although future studies are needed to determine if comorbidities are associated with higher complication rates. A multidisciplinary approach to perioperative care is critical in maintaining the safety and efficacy of ESS in this patient population.PMID:35578407 | DOI:10.1177/19458924221101438

Sinonasal Papillomas: 10-Year Retrospective Analysis of Etiology, Epidemiology, and Recurrence
CONCLUSION: This study explored the features of sinonasal papillomas as well as the risk factors for recurrence and transformation. Younger age at presentation and two or more prior surgeries for papillomas were associated with recurrence. Time to recurrence followed a bimodal distribution, with late recurrences happenning from 40 to 103 months after surgery, emphasizing the importance of long-term follow-up for timely resection of tumors and prevention of malignancy.PMID:35915990 | DOI:10.1177/19458924221116441

Increased Prevalence of Eosinophilic Esophagitis in Patients With Chronic Rhinosinusitis
CONCLUSION: This study reveals an 8-fold greater prevalence of concurrent EoE in patients with CRS. Importantly, this is the first study to describe the association of EoE and the CRSwNP subtype, and we demonstrate a 14-fold greater prevalence of EoE in patients with CRSwNP.PMID:36112756 | DOI:10.1177/19458924221116162

Tixagevimab-Cilgavimab Rollout on Common Variable Immunodeficient Patients: Early Lessons from an Academic Allergy and Immunology Clinic
Tixagevimab-cilgavimab is a combination of two monoclonal antibodies against SARS-CoV-2. In December 2021, the FDA issued emergency use authorization for intramuscular injection of tixagevimab-cilgavimab for prophylaxis against SARS-CoV-2 in immunocompromised patients. Shortly thereafter, our clinic distributed tixagevimab-cilgavimab to patients with Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID). To our knowledge, no prior study has looked at effects of this monoclonal antibody combination on CVID patients.
