The Austin, Texas-based company said the system consists of 2 magnetic catheters which are inserted into an artery and vein in the arm and use a small amount of radiofrequency energy to connect both to create a fistula. The catheters are then removed and the brachial vain is coil-embolized for future dialysis. “The new system with smaller profile catheters and radiopaque visual indicators was extremely easy to use. This new approach streamline...

Credit: UNICEF Mali / DickoBy External SourceNEW YORK, Aug 18 2020 (IPS) We write to call for urgent action to address the global education emergency triggered by COVID-19. With over 1 billion children still out of school because of the lockdown, there is now a real and present danger that the public health crisis will create a COVID generation who lose out on schooling and whose opportunities are permanently damaged. While the more fortunate have had access to alternatives, the world’s poorest children have been locked out of learning, denied internet access, and with the loss of free school meals – once a lifelin...

Medical education during the Covid-19 pandemic long-term experiences of German clinical medical students
ConclusionThis study identified social restrictions as well as didactic and academic structural challenges as relevant factors contributing to perceived stress and fear for medical students during the Covid-19 pandemic, especially as regards their learning experience. Students ’ acceptance of digitalised learning may enable regular interaction with university peers and may facilitate a structured educational life. However, the implementation of digital resources could not provide a sufficient substitute for in-person courses.

Internal consistency of the readiness for interprofessional learning scale in German health care students and professionals
Conclusions: While the overall RIPLS-D scale is reliable, several subscales showed low values and should be used with caution to measure readiness for interprofessional learning in the German health care context. Internal consistency of the instrument does not seem to be given in health care professionals at different stages of their professional career. In particular the sub-scale "roles and responsibilities" was problematic. For these reasons, the RIPLS-D cannot be recommended for use to assess this concept.

Among the retired dogs was "Canela," a 12-year-old Labrador who helped investigators undercover 65 mass graves containing the victims of paramilitary violence, and "Negra," a pit bull mutt who helpe...
