Decision-analytic modeling for early health technology assessment of medical devices - a scoping review
CONCLUSION: Our review provides an overview of the purposes and model characteristics of nineteen recent early evaluation studies on medical devices. The review shows the growing importance of personalized interventions and confirms previously published recommendations for careful modeling of uncertainties surrounding diagnostic devices and for increased use of value-of-information analysis. Timed automata may be a model type worth exploring further in HTA. In addition, we recommend to extend the application of sensitivity analysis to optimize positivity criteria for in-vitro tests with regard to benefit-harm or cost-effec...

Master trainer concept "structured specialist further education" : A joint project of the German Professional Associations of Internal Medicine, Surgeons and Orthopedic/Trauma Surgeons.
DISCUSSION: The project shows that such a program can be systematically developed and pilot studies can be carried out. The central problems in implementation involve the traditional informal further education culture, which as a rule does not implement a systematic elicitation of the state of learning continuously distributed over the whole period of further education and the practical testing of competence development. Broncus Medical affiliate acquires Uptake Medical
Uptake Medical said yesterday that its InterVapor device for treating emphysema is back on the market in Europe after its acquisition for an undisclosed amount by an affiliate of Broncus Medical. Broncus set its purchase up under a new entity based in Seattle, Uptake Medical Technology, and plans to add markets in Australia and Asia to its commercial footprint in Europe by the end of the year. The InterVapor device uses heated water vapor to reduce lung volume in emphysema patients. Cinematic Rendering in Anatomy: A Crossover Study Comparing a Novel 3D Reconstruction Technique to Conventional Computed Tomography
AbstractIntegration of medical imaging into preclinical anatomy courses is already underway in many medical schools. However, interpretation of two ‐dimensional grey scale images is difficult and conventional volume rendering techniques provide only images of limited quality. In this regard, a more photorealistic visualization provided by Cinematic Rendering (CR) may be more suitable for anatomical education. A randomized, two‐period crosso ver study was conducted from July to December 2018, at the University Hospital of Erlangen, Germany to compare CR and conventional computed tomography (CT) imaging for speed and com...
