Surgical repair of distal aortic arch aneurysm with distal extension: sternotomy versus thoracotomy
ConclusionsThe sternotomy approach showed better outcomes in terms of operative mortality, stroke, and pneumonia, as well as long-term survival compared to thoractomy. These results suggested that the sternotomy approach was more appropriate for patients with distal aortic arch aneurysms with distal extensions.

Conclusion: Staged treatment consisting of TEVAR, trans-hiatal oesophagectomy, resection of thoracic aorta and stent graft, in-situ reconstruction of thoracic aorta and omental flap installation provided an excellent outcome in the AEF.

Does Thoracoscopic Surgery Decrease the Morbidity of Combined Lung and Chest Wall Resection?
Conclusions Thoracoscopic chest wall resection was feasible, expanded our case selection, and reduced prosthetic reconstruction. It did not, however, protect frail, elderly patients reliably. Briefer, less traumatic operations may be needed for this cohort.

A model for predicting prolonged length of stay in patients undergoing anatomical lung resection: a National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) database study
CONCLUSIONS A simple model for predicting the probability of a prolonged length of stay in patients undergoing anatomical lung resection has been successfully created. This model can allow for better risk stratification of patients preoperatively based on certain existing comorbidities, and can help to predict the impact the development of various postoperative complications will have on overall patient outcomes.

Fast-track anesthesia in lateral mini-thoracotomy for transapical transcatheter valve implantation
CONCLUSIONS: Fast-track anesthesia using paravertebral-blockade for transcatheter transapical valve replacement in high-risk patients is a possible anesthetic approach. An effective PVB, in addition to a double-lumen laryngeal mask, provide an alternative strategy to conventional general anesthesia.
