McConnell ’ s Bid to Downplay Freezes Undermined by History of Politicians Lying About Their Health
After Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell froze during a press conference this month, the Kentucky Republican’s second such episode this summer, his office released a note from the Capitol physician intended to calm those worried about his ability to continue at his job. Dr. Brian Monahan told McConnell in the letter that there was “no evidence that you have a seizure disorder or that you experienced a stroke, TIA or movement disorder such as Parkinson’s disease.” Monahan suggested the episodes may be related to the Leader’s concussion in March or to dehydration.  [time-brightcove n...

Trends in cardiovascular complications of pregnancy: A nationwide inpatient sample analysis
CONCLUSION: There are concerning increases in certain cardiac complications during pregnancy. This is likely due to increasing age at the time of pregnancy and associated comorbidities.PMID:37678669 | DOI:10.1016/j.amjms.2023.09.001

E-110 Bilateral hypoplasia of the internal carotid artery (ICA) and intracranial vasculopathy with 'moyamoya phenomenon in association with alagille syndrome
ConclusionThe educational value of our case lies not only in the rarity of the condition but also in the uniqueness of patient presentation. It would be a helpful addition to the existing literature on rare genetic syndromes with cerebral vasculature involvement.Abstract E-110 Figure 1Disclosures H. Shakeel: None. J. Gandhi: None. R. O-040 Initial clinical experience with the bendit steerable articulating tip microcatheter for intracranial access and intervention
ConclusionsInitial clinical experience with the controlled articulation that permits flexion at the tip of the microcatheter demonstrated it to be safe. Access to difficult proximal origin curves, and distal clinoidal/ophthalmic segment anatomy may be improved due to the high torque transmission, and acute angulation of this microcatheter. Further experience with the delivery of therapeutic devices will be necessary to better understand the potential role that the present catheter may play in modern neurointerventional procedures.Abstract O-040 Table 1 Patient/Indication/Comorbidities/Treatment/Bendit 21 Role 60s F Cerebr...

E-260 Bilateral cerebral arteriovenous shunting through pial and perforating vessels with multiple strokes and intraparenchymal hemorrhages in a patient with hepatopulmonary syndrome
This study presents a unique case of a 54-year-old male patient with a history of stroke, liver cirrhosis, portal vein thrombosis, hypertension, diabetes, and bladder cancer, who experienced multiple episodes of intracranial hemorrhages, stroke and worsening confusion over the past five years. The patient‘s clinical presentation raised suspicion for an underlying occult vasculopathy. Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) revealed multiple curvilinear, irregular, bilateral pial vessels with early high-flow arteriovenous shunting, consistent with vascular shunting that is associated with liver cirrhosis. The patient&ls...

Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers for adults with early (stage 1 to 3) non-diabetic chronic kidney disease
CONCLUSIONS: There is currently insufficient evidence to determine the effectiveness of ACEi or ARB in patients with stage 1 to 3 CKD who do not have DM. The available evidence is overall of very low certainty and high risk of bias. We have identified an area of large uncertainty for a group of patients who account for most of those diagnosed as having CKD.PMID:37466151 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD007751.pub3

Chronic myeloid leukemia, tyrosine kinase inhibitors and cardiovascular system
CONCLUSIONS: The current CML treatment target is a cure that leads to normal age and gender-adjusted survival with a "normal" quality of life. Cardiovascular disorders are one of the major obstacles to reaching this target in CML patients. The treatment choices for CML patients must include a cardiovascular perspective.PMID:37401285 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202306_32786
