Impact of diabetes in patients with COPD
Conclusion: According to our study, in the COPD population, diabetes seems to be associated with more comorbidities and a worse respiratory function while it does not increase exacerbations rate.

The role of positive airway pressure treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Pulmonary Embolism
Conclusion: It was expected that PAPT improve outcomes in PE since reduction in intermittent hypoxia and in sleep fragmentation may reduce the hypercoagulable state. In this study, PAPT to control OSA was a risk and protective factor to high and low risk PE, respectively. These patients had more comorbidities that could impact the results. Further studies with larger and controlled samples are needed.

A novel multicomponent grading system for obstructive sleep apnoea severity applied in the ESADA cohort
Conclusion: Our data show that the four suggested OSA phenotypes of the "Baveno" classification reflect clinical phenotypes in a large, representative European patient cohort. The impact of T90, known to be correlated with poor cognitive, cardiovascular and metabolic outcomes, may indicate the prognostic relevance of the grading system.* Randerath et al. Cardiovascular comorbidity by clinical phenotypes of obstructive sleep apnea and sleeping hours
Conclusion: The ESE group had more severe OSA. Those with ESE and ≤5h/d had more CVC. Those with ≤5h/d had more dyslipidemia, especially when ESE and insomnia were absent.

Sleep Disordered Breathing association with cardiovascular disease in the French general population
Conclusion: These results confirm that SDB is associated with a higher occurrence of CVD particularly in sleepy and apneic subjects. SDB screening should be relevant to identify people who would benefit from preventive measures.

Sex differences in the relation between sex hormones and right ventricular function in pulmonary arterial hypertension
Conclusion: Patients with PAH have lower DHEAs and free testosterone concentrations than controls. Sex-based differences in the relation between DHEAs and RV function may have implications for sex hormone treatment in PAH.

Cardiovascular comorbidities based on impaired pulmonary function in non-smoking population
Conclusion: The prevalence of cardiovascular comorbidities in non-smokers was higher in restrictive group and COPD, compared to normal control. Restrictive group was independently associated with coronary artery disease in non-smokers.

Genetic analysis of obstructive sleep apnoea discovers a strong association with cardiometabolic health
There is currently limited understanding of the genetic aetiology of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). We aimed to identify genetic loci associated with OSA risk, and to test if OSA and its comorbidities share a common genetic background. We conducted the first large-scale genome-wide association study of OSA using the FinnGen study (217 955 individuals) with 16 761 OSA patients identified using nationwide health registries. We estimated 0.08 (95% CI 0.06–0.11) heritability and identified five loci associated with OSA (p<5.0x10–8): rs4837016 near GAPVD1 (GTPase activating protein and VPS9 domains 1), rs1092856...

Cutting the fat: advances and challenges in sleep apnoea genetics
Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), characterised by recurrent upper airway obstruction, intermittent hypoxia and fragmented sleep, affects >15% of the adult population, with prevalence increasing markedly with advancing age and age-related cardiometabolic and pulmonary disorders [1]. Causal associations between OSA and hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, stroke and mortality are suggested by numerous large prospective studies [2], raising the possibility that effective treatment of OSA might provide a novel strategy for primary and secondary prevention of cardiometabolic dise...

Prevalence of Cardiometabolic Disease in the Greek Sleep Apnea Patients Cohort
Conclusions: We conclude that cardiometabolic disease was very prevalent in our SAP with moderate-severe sleep apnea. Our population consisted mainly of male, obese, middle aged patients. It is of grate interest the high percentage of comorbidities, especially that of arrythmias. Further analysis is needed, in order to identify different phenotypes and the subsequent personalized therapeutic approach.

Polygraphic parameters do not correlate with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) symptoms according to Baveno
Conclusion: Isolated PG data are not suitable biomarkers to predict OSA symptoms and thus, should not be the only basis to guide therapy.

Risk contribution of comorbidities in hospitalized patients with Covid 19 pneumonia
Background: The Covid 19 pandemic has a vast socioeconomic impact worldwide. Obtaining information about the course of the disease is vital for better management.Aim: To assess the risk, comorbidities (CMs) and mortality in hospitalized patients with Covid 19 pneumonia. Methods: The information was gathered from the medical registry and statistical analysis was performed using SPSS.Results: A total of 337 patient were analyzed. Males were 197 (58,5%). Positive PCR results had 307 (91,1%) patients. Almost half of the patients were with respiratory failure on admission (47,1%). At least one comorbidity was found in 84,6%.
