Effect of Tetramethylpyrazine on Neuroplasticity after Transient Focal Cerebral Ischemia Reperfusion in Rats.
Authors: Lin J, Hao C, Gong Y, Zhang Y, Li Y, Feng Z, Xu X, Huang H, Liao W Abstract Tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) has been widely used in ischemic stroke in China. The regulation of neuroplasticity may underlie the recovery of some neurological functions in ischemic stroke. Middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model was established in this study. Rats were divided into three groups: sham group, model group, and TMP group. The neurological function was evaluated using modified neurological severity score (mNSS). Following the neurological function test, expression of synaptophysin (SYP) and growth-associated protein...

Neuroprotective Effects of Early Hypothermia Induced by Phenothiazines and DHC in Ischemic Stroke.
Conclusion: Both interischemia and inter-reperfusion pharmacological hypothermia treatments play a role in neuroprotection after stroke. Interischemia hypothermia treatment may be better able to induce stronger neuroprotection after ischemic stroke. This study provides a new avenue and reference for stronger neuroprotective hypothermia before vascular recanalization in stroke patients. PMID: 33531913 [PubMed]

Luteolin ameliorates lipopolysaccharide-induced microcirculatory disturbance through inhibiting leukocyte adhesion in rat mesenteric venules
Microcirculatory disturbance is closely associated with multiple diseases such as ischemic and septic stroke. Luteolin (3,4,5,7-tetrahydroxyflavone) is a vascular protective flavonoid present in several dietar...

Effect of Tongqiao Huoxue Decoction Combined with Western Medicine on Ischemic Stroke: A Systematic Review.
Conclusion: The therapeutic effect of TQHXD combined with the WMT  group was significantly better than that of the WMT  alone group. For the treatment of patients with IS, TQHXD combined with WMT is worthy of application and promotion. PMID: 33381213 [PubMed]

Astragaloside and/or Hydroxysafflor Yellow A Attenuates Oxygen-Glucose Deprivation-Induced Cultured Brain Microvessel Endothelial Cell Death through Downregulation of PHLPP-1.
In this study, we aimed to elucidate such formulas. Brain microvascular endothelial cells (BMECs) were used to establish an in vitro ischemia-reperfusion model for oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD) experiments to evaluate the function of two traditional Chinese medicines, namely, astragaloside (AS-IV) and hydroxysafflor yellow A (HSYA), in protecting against BMEC. Our results revealed that AS-IV and HSYA attenuated the cell loss caused by OGD by increasing cell proliferation and inhibiting cell apoptosis. In addition, these compounds promoted the migration and invasion of BMECs in vitro. Furthermore, we found that BMECs res...

Scalp Acupuncture Enhances the Functional Connectivity of Visual and Cognitive-Motor Function Network of Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke.
Conclusions: It is indicated that ISSA can regulate the brain functional connection in patients with middle cerebral artery acute infarction in the dominant hemisphere and specifically strengthen the connections between visual, cognitive, motor control, and planning-related brain regions, which may be related to the recovery of movement in the mechanism. This trial is registered with ChiCTR-IOR-15007672. PMID: 33376500 [PubMed]

The Therapeutic Effect of Electroacupuncture Therapy for Ischemic Stroke.
Authors: Yu BH, Xing Y, Zhang F Abstract Electroacupuncture (EA) stimulation is a supplementary therapy and commonly applied in treatment of ischemic stroke in clinic. Stroke is an important cause of long-term disability in individuals in both developing and developed countries. In our review, we show the application of EA stimulation for apoplectic pain, limbs spasticity, blood flow interruption, depression, swallowing dysfunction, aphasia, urinary incontinence, cognition and memory impairment, and constipation following stroke in patients and the related mechanisms in animals. The effectiveness of EA involves wit...

Effect of Electroacupuncture on Neurological Deficit and Activity of Clock and Bmal1 in Cerebral Ischemic Rats
This study aims to explore the effect of acupuncture at acupoints GV20 and BL23 on neuroprotection and anti-apoptosis in middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) rats and expression of apoptosis and circadian rhythm related proteins. Male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into five groups: normal group (Normal), sham model group (Sham MCAO), MCAO model group (MCAO), sham electroacupuncture group (Sham EA) and electroacupuncture group (EA). The MCAO model was prepared by electrocoagulation. The first acupuncture treatment was performed within 2 h after surgery, and then acupuncture therapy was performed on 1st d...

The effect of remote ischemic postconditioning on autonomic function in patients with acute ischemic stroke: A Randomized Controlled Trail.
CONCLUSIONS: 30-day RIpostC could improve autonomic function in AIS patients through the enhancement of the total autonomic nerve activity and vagus nerve activity. The mechanism of RIpostC mediating autonomic function needs to be further investigated. PMID: 33183660 [PubMed - in process]

Effect of Huoxiang Zhengqi Pill on Early Neurological Deterioration in Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke Undergoing Recanalization Therapy and Predictive Effect of Essen Score.
Authors: Huang ZX, Lin J, Zhang C, Dai YY, Lin S, Liu X Abstract Early neurologic deterioration (END) in the acute phase of ischemic stroke is a serious clinical event, which is closely related to poor prognosis. Therefore, it is important to identify presentation features that predict END and take relevant treatment measures, as they could help to prevent the deterioration of high-risk patients. The prospective intervention study was carried out from January 2018 to December 2019. We included consecutive patients hospitalized for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) within 6 hours of onset. Patients were randomly assigned ...
