Magnetic Resonance Angiography Detection of Abnormal Carotid Artery Plaque in Patients With Cryptogenic Stroke Stroke
Conclusions
Our findings suggest that a proportion of strokes classified as cryptogenic may be mechanistically related to complicated, nonhemodynamically significant cervical carotid artery plaque that can easily be detected by routine magnetic resonance imaging/magnetic resonance angiography acute stroke protocols.

Leukoaraiosis and Increased Cerebral Susceptibility to Ischemia: Lack of Confounding by Carotid Disease Stroke
Conclusions
The association with more severe ischemic events (stroke versus TIA) and infarction on imaging is consistent with leukoaraiosis being a marker of increased cerebral susceptibility to ischemia. In contrast, the presence, severity of, and risk factors for atheromatous disease showed no association with leukoaraiosis, suggesting that these are two unrelated disease processes.

Clinical and Magnetic Resonance Imaging Predictors of Very Early Neurological Response to Intravenous Thrombolysis in Patients With Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion Stroke
Conclusions
Lack of VENI provides an early estimate of 3-month outcome and recanalization after IV-tPA. Baseline NIHSS, onset to treatment time, and diffusion weighted imaging—Alberta Stroke Programme Early CT Score could help to predict lack of VENI and, in turn, might help early selection of candidates for complementary reperfusion strategies.

An Approach to Working Up Cases of Embolic Stroke of Undetermined Source Stroke
Conclusions
Our data indicate that patients with cryptogenic embolic stroke show distinct clinical and radiological features depending on the underlying causes.

Gadolinium Enhancement in Intracranial Atherosclerotic Plaque and Ischemic Stroke: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Stroke
Conclusions
Intracranial plaque enhancement on high-resolution vessel wall MRI is strongly associated with ischemic stroke. Evaluation for plaque enhancement on MRI may be a useful test to improve diagnostic yield in patients with ischemic strokes of undetermined etiology.

Circulating Omega-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Subclinical Brain Abnormalities on MRI in Older Adults: The Cardiovascular Health Study Stroke
Conclusions
Among older adults, higher phospholipid long-chain omega-3 PUFA content was associated with lower prevalence of subclinical infarcts and better white matter grade on MRI. Our results support the beneficial effects of fish consumption, the major source of long-chain omega-3 PUFAs, on brain health in later life. The role of plant-derived alpha-linolenic acid in brain health requires further investigation.

Brain Arterial Diameters as a Risk Factor for Vascular Events Epidemiology
Conclusions
The risk of death, vascular death, and any vascular event increased at both extremes of brain arterial diameters. The pathophysiology linking brain arterial remodeling to systemic vascular events needs further research.

Comparison of Carotid Plaque Score and Coronary Artery Calcium Score for Predicting Cardiovascular Disease Events: The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis Epidemiology
BackgroundCoronary artery calcium (CAC) predicts coronary heart disease (CHD) events better than carotid wall plaque presence; however, differences in the utility of CAC burden and carotid plaque burden across the spectrum of cardiovascular disease (CVD) events is unknown. Methods and ResultsCVD, CHD and stroke/transient ischemic attack (TIA) events were evaluated prospectively in a multiethnic cohort without CVD at baseline. Carotid plaque score was determined by the number of ultrasoundâdetected plaques in the common, bifurcation, and internal carotid artery segments. CAC was detected by computed tomography. Predictive ...

Carotid Atherosclerosis and Cerebral Microbleeds: The Framingham Heart Study Epidemiology
Conclusions
Cumulative vascular risk factor exposure may increase the risk of CMB, especially in deep regions. The apparent paradoxical association of carotid intima–media thickness progression with lower risk of CMB may reflect benefits of intensive vascular risk factor treatment among persons with higher cardiovascular risk and deserves further investigation. If replicated, the results may have potential implications for assessment of preventive and therapeutic interventions for subclinical cerebral hemorrhage.

Hemodynamic Tandem Intracranial Lesions on Magnetic Resonance Angiography in Patients Undergoing Carotid Endarterectomy Cardiovascular Surgery
ConclusionsIn patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy, a significant number of preoperative TILs demonstrated hemodynamic components, which were reversed postoperatively. The presence of such components was distinctively associated with the postoperative incidence of new ischemic lesions.
