Clinical Profile of Stroke Patients Presenting to the Emergency Department of a Major Stroke Centre in Oman
CONCLUSION: This study provides essential data regarding stroke characteristics specific to Oman's population. Most of the information obtained appears to be in-line with what has been described internationally and, hence, preventive strategies similar to those indicated in extant literature can be implemented. This information can be utilised by health administrators in planning resource allocation. What Causes Microcephaly?
Discussion Microcephaly is usually defined as an occipitofrontal head circumference (OFC) more than 2 standard deviations (SD) below the mean for sex, age and ethnicity. Severe microcephaly is used for OFC < 3 standard deviations. Rates of microcephaly range from 0.5-12 patients/10,000 live births. The OFC should be measured at every well child visit and at other opportunities and plotted on standard growth charts. Ischemic Stroke Outcomes in Oman: Experience of a University Hospital Based Stroke Registry (P6.278)
Conclusions:Ischemic stroke in Oman reflects the high morbidity/mortality seen in most communities in the region. Characteristics of incident stroke such as stroke recurrence, type, severity and cardiovascular comorbidity are likely the major determinants of stroke outcome. A Successful Endovascular Treatment of an Ischemic Stroke following Cardiac Surgery.
We present the case of a 52-year-old woman who had open heart surgery in Queen Alia Heart Institute, Jordan, to replace a severely stenotic rheumatic mitral valve and repair a leaking tricuspid valve. Her surgery went smoothly with no major event. However, she developed a massive ischemic stroke during her recovery period despite being on adequate anticoagulation therapy.
