Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: We investigated adult-onset epilepsy as a risk factor for the development of substance use disorder (SUD) by comparing the rate of SUD diagnosis among adults diagnosed with epilepsy with presumably healthy controls with lower extremity fractures (LEF). For additional comparison, we investigated the risk for adults with migraine only. Neighborhood disadvantage and health-related quality of life in pediatric epilepsy
CONCLUSIONS: These results highlight the importance of identifying high-risk groups, as the cumulative burden of social context, familial factors, and seizure-specific characteristics contribute to lower HRQoL in pediatric epilepsy which disproportionately affects patients from lower-resourced backgrounds. Potentially modifiable factors such as parental psychiatric status exist within the child's environment, emphasizing the importance of a whole-child approach to patient care. Further exploration of disadvantage in this population is needed to better understand these relationships over time.PMID:36989568 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2023.109171

Neurosurgical Utilization, Charges, and Reimbursement After the Affordable Care Act: Trends From 2011 to 2019
CONCLUSION: Although overall reimbursement declined across the study period, substantial differences emerged across procedural categories. We further find a notable shift in utilization and reimbursement for neurosurgical procedures done in non-inpatient care settings.PMID:36700751 | DOI:10.1227/neu.0000000000002306
