Prehospital Factors Associated with Stroke Misdiagnosis by EMS Providers (S35.006)
Conclusions: LICH EMS providers missed 41% of strokes and our findings suggest that greater clinical suspicion for stroke should be exercised in patients who have a higher prehospital systolic blood pressure, who have a dispatch call of stroke, past medical history of diabetes or stroke and in those who are unconscious.Study support: NIH grants 1U01NS044364, R01 HL096944, 1U10NS077378 and 1U10NS080377.Disclosure: Dr. Brandler has nothing to disclose. Differences in lipid profiles in two Hispanic ischemic stroke populations
ConclusionWe found significant differences in lipid fractions in Hispanic ischemic stroke patients, with lower total cholesterol and low‐density lipoprotein, and higher triglyceride levels in Mexicans. These findings highlight the heterogeneity of dyslipidemia among the Hispanic race‐ethnic group and may lead to different secondary prevention strategies.

Awareness of diabetes mellitus among diabetic patients in the Gambia: a strong case for health education and promotion
Conclusion: Our study shows that the majority of patients attending the MOPD have poor knowledge on several aspects of DM. Hence, there is need for conscious efforts towards improving the level of awareness through health education and promotion, not limited to the hospital but also within the general population, as part of strategies to prevent, manage and control DM.

Factors Associated With Length of Hospitalization in Patients Admitted With Transient Ischemic Attack in United States Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Approximately 75% of patients admitted with transient ischemic attack stay in the hospital for ≥2 days, with the most important determinants being pre-existing medical comorbidities. Longer duration of hospital stay is associated with 2- to 5-fold greater hospitalization charges.

Increased Hemoglobin A1c Level Is Associated with Decreased Hematoma Volume in Patients with Spontaneous Intracerebral Hemorrhage (P03.176)
CONCLUSIONS: Our data showed inverse correlation between HbA1c levels and BHV. This contradiction may suggest that acute hyperglycemia in response to acute stress is the effect rather than cause of severe ICH. Further studies to determine if increased HbA1c levels lead to the early activation of clotting factors in ICH patients, or increased HbA1c levels lead to changes in the structure of the vessel wall is warranted.Disclosure: Dr. Mehta has nothing to disclose. Predictive Risk Factors of In-Hospital Mortality Following Acute Stroke in the United States: Data from the Nationwide Inpatient Database, 2006-2010 (P02.015)
CONCLUSIONS: The rate of in-hospital mortality is relatively high following acute stroke (8.42%). We identified multiple risk factors of in-hospital mortality in acute stroke patients. The strongest risk factor is the type stroke (hemorrhagic). The present finding suggests that patients at increased risk of mortality can be identified and additional treatment for prevention might be warranted.Disclosure: Dr. Naderi has nothing to disclose.
