Advances in allergic skin disease, anaphylaxis, and hypersensitivity reactions to foods, drugs, and insects in 2013
This review highlights some of the research advances in anaphylaxis; hypersensitivity reactions to foods, drugs, and insects; and allergic skin diseases that were reported in the Journal in 2013. Studies on food allergy suggest that (1) 7.6% of the US population is affected, (2) a “healthy” early diet might prevent food allergy, (3) the skin might be an important route of sensitization, (4) allergen component testing might aid diagnosis, (5) the prognosis of milk allergy might be predictable through early testing, (6) oral or sublingual immunotherapy show promise but also have caveats, and (7) preclinical studies show ...

Low cord blood Foxp3/CD3γ mRNA ratios: a marker of increased risk for allergy development
Conclusions and clinical relevanceLow cord blood Foxp3/CD3γ mRNA ratios are highly predictive for early allergy development, whereas specific IgE levels to hen's egg white above 0.05 Ua/mL at age one year predict allergy development in general. This article is protected by copyright. The significance of allergic contact urticaria to milk in children with cow's milk allergy
ConclusionCMP contact urticaria exists only in patients with IgE‐mediated CMA. A “finger test” to CMP should form part of the evaluation of CMA patients, and positivity suggests the potential for multiple food allergies, especially to sesame and egg. This article is protected by copyright.
