Acute stroke in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting surgery in acute coronary syndrome: Predictors and outcomes
CONCLUSION: Based on our findings, acute stroke after bypass surgery in patients with ACS is associated with increased mortality and adverse outcomes. Cardiogenic shock, peripheral vascular disease and previous stroke were independent predictors of stroke after CABG procedure. Therefore, preoperative evaluation of potential risk factors may be crucial to improve postoperative results.PMID:37504576 | DOI:10.1177/02676591231193636

Postoperative Blood Urea Nitrogen Is Associated With Stroke in Cardiac Surgical Patients.
CONCLUSIONS: In these analyses, we identified BUN as a marker of heightened postoperative stroke risk after cardiac surgical procedures. Postoperative risk markers may improve assessment of delayed postoperative strokes. PMID: 25683323 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Outcomes of stroke events during transcatheter aortic valve implantation
CONCLUSIONS: Among Medicare beneficiaries undergoing TAVI, procedure-related ischaemic stroke was associated with worse outcomes, increased Medicare expenditures, and less time spent at home. Procedure-related ischaemic stroke during TAVI remains a critically important and potentially preventable source of patient mortality, morbidity and healthcare utilisation.PMID:35135749 | DOI:10.4244/EIJ-D-21-00951

Postoperative stroke related to cardiac surgery in octogenarians
CONCLUSIONS Incidence of postoperative stroke after CPB was not significantly higher in our octogenarian population. Although in younger patients peripheral vascular disease and cardiac rhythm disturbances were significant risk factors, it seems that factors related to intraoperative brain oxygenation (secondary to preoperative anaemia) are the most critical determinant of stroke in the elderly.

Predictors of stroke in patients undergoing cardiac surgery
Conclusion: The study identified the following risk predictors for stroke after cardiac surgery: age, urgent and emergency surgery, aortic valve disease, history of atrial fibrillation, peripheral artery disease, history of cerebrovascular disease and cardiopulmonary bypass time > 110 minutes.

Optimizing endovascular stroke therapy: A primary PCI deja‐vu?
Key Points The optimal revascularization modality (thromboembolectomy, suction thrombectomy, angioplasty with stenting, and stent retriever thrombectomy) for the cerebral circulation remains to be defined Catheter‐based therapy of the acute stroke yields better clinical outcomes in patients <65‐year‐old, with a door‐to‐balloon time <4 hr and successful reperfusion TICI ≥ 2. Considering the significant incidence of acute strokes which are either ineligible for intravenous thrombolytic therapy or present too late, catheter‐based therapies may offer an alternative treatment option. Interventional card...
